have better recruiting offers than a 4* recruit like Matt Hall? Halls offers aren't shabby or anything, but just Louisville and FSU? Where are the other schools? And how does Shuler have offers from nearly ever powerhouse in the country?

Is this a recruiting science that I cant understand?

selfexplanatory

I'd say in the case of a person like Matt Hall it is because he was comitted so early.
This year's nominee for the Coopy award.

Err, now I know it's easy to bash Shiloh Christian, but I'm pretty there aren't that many high schools in Arkansas that have a player picked in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft.
Or have you forgotten where Damian Williams played school?

Well i think the early commitment from him let the other schools know this is where he wants to go plus he has his senior season ahead of him so some people want to see how that goes.

Here's a key difference:  if Scouts or Rivals calls guys  2* recruits, and they are wrong, it may become a message board anecdote; if a coach misses on talent evaluation, they lose their jobs.    Coaches have more at risk, and therefore are keener evaluators of what will work within their systems and in terms of talent overall-- at least the ones that retain their jobs.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Shuler is a FB and the highest rated FB is a 3* and there is only one 3*.

A lot of teams also convert players from other positions to be FB, or instead use a system with an H-back instead of a true FB.

Really great question.  There are a couple of things at work here.

First, Matt Hall was an early and strong commit to Arkansas.   If he was not committed, he would have more offers than he could shake a stick at.

Second, the services rate FB's with the same statistical criteria that they rate RB's.   FB's tend to be a bit slower, and don't tend to ring up as many gaudy statistics as star RB's.   Even though Shuler will make an outstanding FB or Hback in college, he is being statistically compared to the McFaddens of the world.

Hall commited to Arkansas in September of 06, a year and a half before he can sign his LOI.  He would be sitting on 20+ offers right now if he were uncommited.

TRG: Are you still getting contacted by school even though you're committed to Arkansas?

Matt: I get questionnaires from schools like LSU and Alabama and me and Coach Wilson will write committed to Arkansas or Go Hogs on the letter and send them back. Coach Markuson and Coach Nutt laugh when I tell them that

Wow, I never realized my second favorite player (how could #1 not be McFadden) could be a high school senior.  I love this kid now!

There are five 3 star FBs.  The top 2 have 5.7 RR ratings.  IMO you will see Shuler on this list in the very near future when rivals comes out with new ratings.

That's hilarious! :razorback:

You can throw all the recruiting junk science out the window when a talented kid commits early, and especially when it's to his home state.  All things considered, the fact that he's rated as high as he is; speaks volumes about his actual talent!

They base your rating on where your position would go in the NFL draft. Fullbacks don't tend to go that high in the draft, ergo fullbacks don't get that high of rating on Rivals. Peyton Hillis however was a four star fullback, but if you watch his film from high school he was way more athletic than your average big bruising full back.
