This is game 1 of 3 games in Baum Stadium which begin on Friday and concludes on Sunday. There will be a Double Header on Friday due to impending weather on Saturday.
 
FRIDAY's First Pitch is set for 3 p.m. central time and WILL NOT BE TELEVISED. SEC+ will stream this game.

Blaine Knight will start on the mound in Game 1 for the Hogs, as expected. He's 2-0 on the year with a 0.53 ERA. He's started three games, pitched 17 innings, struck out 15, and walked 4.

Remember that the one earned run Knight allowed this year was a fly ball that got lost in the sunshine against Cal Poly. The ball fell and was ruled a double, as the Hogs' outfielders didn't touch it.

Kent State's starting pitcher in Game 1 today is a senior lefthander named Eli Kraus (6-1, 190 lbs.) He's 1-1 on the year with an 8.53 ERA. He's pitched 12.2 innings in three appearances, all starts.

In his sophomore and junior seasons, he was a combined 17-4 for Kent State with a 2.83 ERA in 28 starts.

Kent State is 6-3 on the season. They've played exclusively on the road for the first few weeks, which of course is standard practice for many teams from the Midwest.

Kent State was 37-18 last season. The Golden Flashes won the Mid-American Conference regular-season title but lost in the MAC tournament finals. They were 0-2 against the RPI Top 50.

2016 was a similar story. Kent State was 43-14 and the MAC regular-season champs, but they lost in the finals of the conference tournament. They were 1-2 versus the RPI Top 50.

Kent State's last NCAA tournament appearance was in 2014.  Their head coach is Jeff Duncan, now in his fourth season with the Golden Flashes. The previous coach there, Scott Stricklin (2004-2013), now coaches at Georgia.

You might recall that Kent State made the College World Series with Arkansas back in 2012. Kent State, then coached by Stricklin, was the first Mid-American Conference team to make the CWS since 1976.
