Ole Miss Forces Rubber Match With 13-5 Win Over Arkansas

Ole Miss defeated Arkansas 13-5 in game 2 of the NCAA Super Regionals on Sunday afternoon to force a winner take all game 3.

In the 1st inning, Casey Martin reached first on an error after the first and second baseman let a pop up drop. Then Dominic Fletcher drove him in with a no-doubter over the right field wall, giving Arkansas a 2-0 lead.

Thomas Dillard started off the bottom of the inning with a leadoff single to center. Then Grae Kessinger was hit by one of Connor Noland’s pitches which set up Cole Zabowksi for a huge blast over the right field wall. The 3-run homer gave Ole Miss a 3-2 lead.

The Diamond Hogs couldn’t get things going in the top of the 2nd but the Rebels just kept rolling. Cooper Johnson smashed a solo homer to begin the bottom of the inning and put Ole Miss up 4-2.

Dave Van Horn immediately made a march to the mound to take Connor Noland out of the game. Noland pitched just 1 inning and gave up 4 runs on 3 hits.

Kole Ramage replaced Noland on the mound and walked two Rebels to load up the bases with one out. Tyler Keenan came to the plate next and drilled a 3-run triple out to the warning track in center field, putting Ole Miss up 7-2. Ryan Olenek reached on a fielders choice, allowing another run to score and give the Rebels a 6 run lead.

Trevor Ezell was hit by a pitch in the top of the 3rd inning. Following which, Matt Goodheart hit a single straight over the third baseman to put two on and Fletcher then laid down a beautiful bunt to load up the bases with one out. But the Hogs couldn’t capitalize as Heston Kjerstad struck out and Jack Kenley hit a pop up to end the top of the frame. The Rebels couldn’t get anything going in the 3rd either though.

In the 4th inning, Jacob Nesbit hit one right back up the middle and Trevor Ezell drilled an RBI double to left center field to cut the Rebels lead to 5. Casey Martin followed suit and hit an RBI double down the left field line to make it an 8-4 game. But the Hogs weren’t done yet. Matt Goodheart hit another RBI double and made it 8-5.

Kenley drew a walk in the top of the 5th and Casey Opitz hit a single to put runners on the corners. Once again though, Arkansas left the runners stranded. It was all Rebels from there on out.

Ole Miss tacked on another run in the bottom of the 6th with a solo home run by Keenan, giving the Rebels a 9-5 lead over Arkansas. They then proceeded to load up the bases and Servideo hit a 2 RBI single to make it 11-5 Ole Miss. Kessinger smashed a huge 2-run bomb over the Arkansas bullpen in the 7th, making it 13-5.
