Musselman, Hogs extend first offer to high school freshman: Derrian Ford of Magnolia

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas offered a scholarship to 2022 Derrian Ford (6-3 combo guard, Magnolia, Team South 16U) on Wednesday, marking the first offer by Head Hog Eric Musselman and his staff to a high school freshman.

“It was amazing to be able to get a scholarship offer from my home-state school, and maybe some day I can go there and showcase my talents as a Razorback,” Ford said. “I thank God for the opportunities he has given me.”

Ford, who led Magnolia to the 4A state title in March over perennial power Little Rock Mills, is averaging 22.6 points through 7 games while playing up with Team South 16U on the competitive Under Armour Association grassroots circuit. He’s the second-leading scorer on the UAA circuit through two sessions.

“He was very excited, his parents were excited,” a source close to Ford said, adding that the offer was extended by Hogs assistant coach Corey Williams on behalf of Musselman. “It’s an honor to get an offer from your home state, & they thanked (Williams) for it.”

Ford now has eight NCAA Division 1 offers — the Hogs, Baylor, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, TCU, Alabama, Fresno State, and Oral Roberts — with several more high-major programs showing strong interest.
