A consensus First-Team All-SEC selection from the coaches and Associated Press, Daniel Gafford leads the Hogs taking a lot of momentum into the league tournament.
“I think he’s very deserving and of course the other night (vs. Alabama) was one of the nights where he took it to another level,” Anderson said.
That was Saturday Night against the Crimson Tide when Gafford poured in 29 points grabbing 16 rebounds.
“I was in my zone, basically finishing around the basket because I have to be strong around the basket. Those are great points, and then getting fouled, got to knock down free throws down too,” Gafford said.
Gafford was seven of nine from the free throw stripe
against the Tide. That’s saying a lot for a guy only shooting 59 percent from the line for the season.
Overall, he is the focal point for the Hogs.
“It’s been a learning year, and a development year
if you think of the role he was in last year, it’s totally different this year, and he’s matured a lot,” Anderson notes.
It’s a year when all signs point to Gafford leaving college after this season entering the NBA Draft.
It still didn’t stop fans from chanting one more year Saturday.
“They all got together and said what they wanted.
I appreciated that a lot,” Gafford adds.
Just in the last three games, Gafford has a combined 66 points and 22 boards. Anderson says he knows what is at stake and that his star forward is well-aware.
“This guy is falling down, getting up and getting dunks,
and it is blue collar,” Anderson said.
As for the El Dorado Native and the presence he brings, Desi Sills summing it up best. “I just feel like Daniel Gafford is doing what Daniel Gafford does,
and he is the head honcho of this team, and we will follow his lead,” Sills said.
