Arkansas knows what the majority of its Class of 2019 will look like as they added 22 members in December.
In addition, they have three players who are signing on Wednesday and have been considered locks for awhile. Pulaski Academy tight end Hudson Henry, Warren wide receiver Treylon Burks and Mansfield (Texas) Legacy safety Jalen Catalon will ink with the Hogs on Wednesday and all three are four-star recruits.
The speculation and drama starts following that trio. Arkansas coach Chad Morris, Joe Craddock and Jeff Traylor did an in-home visit with Phenix City (Ala.) Central running back A’Montae Spivey on Friday. Spivey is committed to the Hogs, but didn’t sign early. He visited Ole Miss last weekend and the Hogs have battled the Rebels to keep him.
It’s important the Hogs keep Spivey since they are thin at running back among the underclassmen. Arkansas has senior Devwah Whaley plus Rakeem Boyd, Chase Hayden and T.J. Hammonds, all juniors, at scholarship running backs.
The other Arkansas commitment who didn’t sign early is Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Blackman cornerback Adonis Otey. He canceled his scheduled visit to Ole Miss this weekend. A source indicates it’s a tossup between the Hogs and USC, where he visited last weekend. His teammate, wide receiver Trey Knox, enrolled at Arkansas at midterm.
Arkansas is also trying to land a pair of linebackers. Dodge City (Kan.) Community College’s Lakia Henry and Dyersburg (Tenn.) High’s Chris Russell are two coveted by the Hogs.
Henry is down to Arkansas, Texas and Ole Miss. He was at Arkansas for the LSU game, then Ole Miss last weekend and was at Texas this week.
Russell canceled his trip to Tennessee this weekend and now will choose from Hogs or Texas A&M. He was at Arkansas this past weekend and in College Station two weeks prior to that.
Arkansas is rumored to possibly have an unofficial visitor in town this week as well. All the rumors, speculation, drama and more will likely end on Wednesday. Arkansas can sign seven prospects in this signing period to go with the 22 early ones.
