Arkansas has landed Mansfield (Texas) Legacy defensive lineman Taurean Carter.
Carter, 6-3, 263, is the second defensive lineman from his school to choose the Hogs. Enoch Jackson also committed to Arkansas on Aug, 3. Carter chose the Hogs over Wisconsin and Michigan State as well as offers to several other schools.
Carter visited Arkansas unofficially for the North Texas game and then was back for an official when the Hogs hosted Alabama. He talked about why he chose the Razorbacks.
“The coaching staff treats us like family,” Carter said. “They take care of us. The fact that they actually need us instead of wanting us. That’s a big part of the reason they need us and treat us like family. Anywhere I go want to feel like family. I want to feel like that could be my second dad other than my biological father.”
In five games this season, Carter has 18 tackles, including seven unassisted, four tackles for loss and one sack. That follows a junior season when he finished with 63 tackles, including 38 unassisted, 14 tackles for loss, seven sacks, one fumble recovery and a quarterback hurry.
On Aug. 16, Carter tweeted out a final four of Arkansas, Michigan State, Texas Tech and Texas. However, on Aug. 26, Wisconsin offered him. Then on Oct. 14, Carter announced his final three were Arkansas, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
How good is it to get this decision out of the way?
“A stress reliever major stress reliever to get everything knocked off my shoulders,” Carter said.
With Carter and Jackson now in the fold, Arkansas is still also recruiting teammate safety Jalen Catalon. He is considering Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and TCU. He officially visited Arkansas with Carter and Jackson for the Alabama game weekend.
Carter and Mansfield Legacy will take on Dallas Adams on Friday night.
Arkansas now has 23 public commitments.
