JUCO Linebacker Caleb Johnson reflects back on Official Visit to Arkansas

By Otis Kirk

Arkansas hosted Fullerton (Calif.) College linebacker Caleb Johnson for an official visit this weekend.

After he had concluded his visit to Arkansas, Johnson, 6-1, 215, talked about the trip.

“I had a  real good time,” Johnson said. “It’s a really good atmosphere and a lot of good people. I enjoyed the game and meeting all the players and coaches.”

Johnson had listed Texas as his leader prior to the visit, but does this help Arkansas?

“It does definitely,” Johnson said. “I wasn’t expecting that good a vibe, environment. I will definitely have to think about it a lot.”

Looking back on the visit, what would you consider the part of it?

“Probably the people,” Johnson said. “Meeting all them.”

How do you feel about the coaching staff?

“Chief (John Chavis), I looked him up a long time ago,” Johnson said. “He definitely has the experience. He’s a good guy. I was honestly not expecting that. He’s a real nice guy. The way they go about coaching and calling plays and stuff they’re a lot nicer than I thought.”

Nebraska offered Johnson this week. They could be in line to get a visit.

“I have one more,” Johnson said. “I haven’t decided where yet. I’m thinking between Oregon or Nebraska.”

How hard will your decision be?

“It will be too hard honestly,” Johnson said. “I’m gonna have to think and pray about it a lot.”

Thus far this season, Johnson has 15 tackles, four tackles for loss, 0.5 sack and two quarterback hurries. As a freshman, Johnson had 41 tackles, including 8.5 for loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Johnson was previously committed to Iowa State, but opted to decommit on Oct. 9. He has officially visited Texas and Iowa State prior to the Arkansas trip. He was at Texas the Oct. 13 weekend.
