Five High School Games in Arkansas to Watch This Week

The second week of the high school season will once again provide some interesting games to watch. Several college prospects in the state will be in action.

If one is looking for a game to attend, here’s five options. All these games are on Friday night.

Warren at Stuttgart, 7 p.m.

It will be the first game for wide receiver Treylon Burks and defensive tackle Marcus Miller since they opened the season in North Little Rock on Aug. 25 against Batesville Southside. Stuttgart is 1-1 having lost to DeWitt 13-12 and then beat Star City 33-7 this past Friday night. It will take a big effort from the Ricebirds to hang with Burks, Miller and the Lumberjacks.

Bryant at Bentonville West, 7 p.m.

Bryant opened the season 1-0 with a 28-24 win over Benton in the Salt Bowl. The game was stopped early due to some action off the field. Neither team was guilty of anything, but they were both penalized by having the game stopped due to security issues. Bentonville West is 0-2 on the season as they have battled injuries to key players. Class of 2019 linebacker Kendall Young has been the star who has managed to stay healthy Bentonville West. On Friday night in a 44-31 loss to Fort Smith Southside, he had 13 tackles and a 9-yard sack. He also had 13 tackles in the season opening 56-40 loss to Owasso (Okla.). Young said he will likely make a decision between Vanderbilt, Arkansas and Missouri this weekend.

Pulaski Academy at Memphis Ridgeway, 7 p.m.

Class of 2019 tight end Hudson Henry had nine catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener against Har-Ber. The Bruins won that game 50-14. Henry was at Arkansas’ season opener this past Saturday. He has his college decision down to Hogs, Stanford, Wisconsin, Clemson and Penn State. Ridgeway is struggling this season with a mark of 0-3. They lost to Memphis University High School 34-0, Memphis Whitehaven 21-14 and Memphis Kirby 42-28.

Brinkley at Rison, 7 p.m.

Rison’s Malik Chavis is committed to Arkansas and was in Fayetteville on Saturday. Rison opened its season with a 34-6 victory over Fordyce. Brinkley also brings a 1-0 record into this game having beaten Corning 28-8 in its season opener.

Shiloh Christian at Trumann, 7 p.m.

The Saints are 0-1 having lost to a very good Texarkana (Arkansas High) team 54-38 in the season opener. Class of 2019 offensive lineman Logan Kallesen has a preferred walk-on offer to Arkansas. He was at the Arkansas game on Saturday. Trumann is also 0-1 having lost to Hoxie 31-28.
