Related to officials.

It absolutely pisses me off when you are watching a game and a play happens RIGHT in front of an official, and that official let's the play go on and then all of the sudden there is a flag/whistle from 50 yards away by an official who not even in position to SEE the play calling a foul.

Happened the other night at my daughter's basketball game , she wasn't even involved in that particular play, and I just came out of my seat. I'm so sick of that darn. Just watch your own area .

why is that a problem?

I wish they'd start the clock on the ready for play after an incomplete pass.
Sarcasm. It's great seeing someone not throw the ball on the ground at the feet of the officials or doing that all you can eat crap after a 5 yard gain.

Players thanking some made up deity for allowing them to win the game over the players on the other team for reasons not entirely obvious to the viewer, but evidently the players on the losing team did deserve to be punished with a loss by said deity.

It always leaves me wondering what the losing team did to displease their maker.  But they never tell us.

Ha!  Totally agree.

I know that a lot of people view that as some sort of a humble gesture, but it could not possibly be more arrogant.

"I'm thanking God because He made the difference in this game.  He subjected those other guys to a gut wrenching loss because He wanted to make sure that I won."

One more: Watching a QB on a team out of timeouts, going through all his checks and cadences while in hurry up with time running. Basically wasting 10-15 seconds each time.

In the 80s, to get the score of the game, you had to wait for the announcer to say it or wait for a commercial break or between scores or see the scoreboard in the background, something like that.  Sometime in the mid 90s (?) we made a deal with these broadcasters, or so it seemed.  We will give you a tiny slice of our view of the game if you will keep the score up there the whole time.  We accepted.  Everyone was happy.

BUT

Sometime in the last 10 years or so, broadcasters have decided to just randomly remove the score display.  Almost every time there's a replay and then just randomly at other times for no real reason.  It is infuriating.  We had a deal!

I can't count the number of times I switch to a game, or walk back into the living room to glance at the game to get a score, and it RANDOMLY IS NOT THERE FOR NO DISCERNIBLE REASON.

Dangit we had a deal.  Keep the *)@(#$ score on the screen.

People whining about officials when they have never done the job themselves.

I kid I kid

I've always been too busy coaching to do any officiating. I am not some guru or anything, but I'm pretty good with the fundamentals of all sports, and more importantly I am devoted to giving my time to my kids. I have kids ranging in age from 25 to 3 and I've coached every single one of them in all the non school sports they have played. Little League, Pewee Football, soccer, even coached a girl's gymnastics team with my wife (hey when your child is into a sport YOUR into that sport)

I've coached youth sports for the last 15 years, when my oldest turned 5 I started with baseball, and also did some basketball. I used to complain about the officials all the time, until one year I decided to umpire baseball. Gave me a whole new perspective.

If that doesn't work, you can always try a bark collar from your local pet shop. It worked for me.

Think about what is going on here.  Much like most commercials, there is always something in there that they want you to remember.  Example:  In the late 50s, L&M cigarettes said the L&M stood for less tars, more taste.  Great commercial because I remembered the product.  Same thing today.  You remember all the negative crap and can repeat that.  You watch anyway.  This isn't going to keep you from watching in most situations.  Oddly, we don't have total recall about anything we liked but remember the crap.  From their position, what is important is that you remembered.

I agree with nearly every post so far in the thread.  I really don't care if women are announcers or not.  I have a friend who swears that the worst thing he has ever heard on a golf course was a woman's voice.  Many women foursomes take 6 to 8 hours to play 18 from their tees.  Of course they walk for their health, visit incessantly, usually keep the ball in play all the way around and most cannot tell you the score of any of them by the time they reach their cars after the match.  But they know what each is planning for Dinner, what each wore and what color, that one has a daughter who is home sick, that ones husband may be cheating on her, that sodas have gone up 25 cents in the pro shop, what each is planning for the Church social, whose husband got a promotion, who among them has a health issue, what their Docter's name is and their opinion, that the new High School History Teacher is drop dead gorgeous and so many more things that most men consider useless info.  Point is that I believe nearly everyone has good intentions and the right to their version of the facts, even if I cannot stand parts of it.

You have never played golf with me.  I don't cook, single, don't pay enough attention to how much things cost, daughters were never sick.  I might talk about the drop dead gorgeous history teacher.  I do like to discuss football, basketball and baseball, however I do so in my rather female voice.  I don't like the female announcer in question because I can't get past her voice.

Soccer is awesome.  Unfortunately, we're exposed to a lot of subpar soccer by virtue of living in the US.  But when it is played on the highest level, it is great to watch.

Replays! Way too many replays!
Glad you mentioned it. Yep, for something that supposedly started out to be used sparingly with only the most questionable calls and uncertain situations it seems to me that many officials are merely using it as a crutch. They either don't make a call or make it but seem to rely almost exclusively on replay. Seems in most games about 1/2 the time spent is going back and reviewing plays. Adds time to (many) already lengthy games and also tends to interrupt the normal flow of play.

Uhh....please identify such. I honestly don't recall that anyone, at least on Hogville or anyone else I personally know, claiming such. They were merely relieved we came back and then hung on. And neither of those obviously follow your claim.

Other than the Razorbacks (I love all things Hogs), Bassettball is a huge pet peeve... NBA has ruined the game.
Hell, I'd have been a stud player if I could carry the ball, take three (or four now) steps to the basket, pick up my pivot foot BEFORE the dribble, change my pivot foot, never be expected to block out or make more than 50% of my free throws!

Its the most popular music in America currently. Like any genre doesnt mean its all great but it does tell you why its being shoved down your throat if you are watching college sports

Fans with no idea what actually officiating a game is like acting like they do.

Or people who think they are  clever by always being the contrarian and not realizing their shtick has gotten tiresome.

Coaches who wear visors in cold weather or really any time., just dumb

Mark Schlabach and Todd McShay., both are wrong a lot and are extremely arrogant

Coaches who get on to the field and have to be constantly pulled back., ie Kirby Smart

Defensive players who celebrate any time the offensive player makes a positive gain or their team is getting beat by a large margin

Men who drink wine at a sporting event.,  grow a pair

Refs and journalists who are intimidated or just scared of Saban., he is a human, a very short one

The last one we don’t have to really hear anymore but I couldn’t stand when people said or wrote how classy Bielema was every time he lost, which was a lot towards the end.  Being nice and classy in the SEC will kill your program.  I don’t really care how nice he was,  just win.  It’s like the girlfriend who says, “ oh, he’s a nice guy.”

Beautiful game, minus the flopping.

Agreed.  I have no problems with going down to get the call; they won't call a foul if you stay on your feet.  But I do have a problem with the histrionics.

They could fix that easily if they would just issue retroactive yellow cards or suspensions.

I really like sports.  I even like or did like the talking head shows.  But the shows seem to be targeting a very young audience.  I don't mind a little Stuart Scott "boo yah" ever now and then but a little goes a long way.  I heard one guy in reference to a NFL personal foul, say, "that is weak sauce bro".  Adults like sports too.
