Trey Biddy Said

That someone recently mentioned to him Mike Houston.  I decided to do some research and this guy is impressive in the leagues he has coached in.  His teams get better, not worse and he competes for championships.  He also embraces the academic side of college football and believes in a potent offense and an aggressive defense.

I get that he's not Mike Norvell and doesn't have ties to Arkansas or Texas.  Absent Norvell being our guy, and if we don't go with another big name, which is likely, I think a guy like Mike Houston may be just as good a choice as any.

Not in my opinion.  Your post was childish though.

His Citadel ties might eliminate him from consideration... ;)

Houston needs a lot of experience. He needs to go to a G5 or lower tier P5 school before coming to the SEC.

Zero recruiting ties, zero big school experience

I'm extremely open-minded about young successful coaches right now.  Sure, there are holes (like no experience in the south), but you can find holes in every possible coaching candidate at this point, save Saban, Dabo, and a couple of others.

My only concern is D2 coaches don't always transition well.  Bobby Hauck from Montana should have had a successful transition.  He was 80 - 17 in 7 seasons there, but went 15 - 49 at UNLV.  Sure, it's UNLV, but it's not like UNLV played in a power 5 conference.

We could do far worse than Mike Houston.

I understand and agree with everything you said.  On the other hand we have seen how a highly touted three time Rose Bowl coach did.  The problem is there is no way to know until a guy has been given the opportunity.  By then you either made a great hire or a bad one.

Would be underwhelmed with this hire, and it's highly suspect, but honestly give me anyone other than Bret and I'll be okay with it

Bielema has been pretty open about how unprepared he was for SEC recruiting and depth on the lines and th competition each week.

This would be those same issues x 1000

I just looked at his coaching record and I found that in 2015 when he was the head coach of the Citadel, they lost to South Carolina by 1 point (23-22). Granted that was when USCe had an interim coach.

Bielema admitted to not being prepared and the next four years he didn't make the necessary changes.
