Yes those are good points. Sorry for not fact checking more. I do like that he has won a very high level game before. I could see him being hesitant to come under another program where the fan base can be highly critical.

I still defend being from Arkansas as a potential positive.

We are not too good for him, that is ridiculous.

Because he is from Arkansas, we want a coach who was run out of Austin on a rail, a coach who couldn't win with UT talent in what everyone on this board says is the weakest P5 conference in America?

He got humiliated by the coach we are looking to replace when they faced each other in a bowl game, putting maybe the worst offense we have seen on the field.  They were snapping it to a giant wooden Indian QB who couldn't pass, but made up for that fact by being so slow he couldn't outrun Bielema himself.

That's the guy we want?

He had three years at Texas.

Correct me if wrong, but his players, even at Texas, were very vocal in their support of him.

He went 11-2 and 12-1 in his final two years at Louisville and was ranked in the top 15 each of those two years

He won a BCS bowl game, which our team has never done according to one's own timeline and interpretation

Yeah, we don't need that

I say put him on the list at least instead of immediately writing him off

I love Charlie, but idk what happened at Texas. He was a beast at Louisville and great as a coordinator at Florida. But any time you lose to Kansas in your 3rd year, that's a strawbreaker. That said, idk how he would do as a head coach in the SEC other than lose to Saban

With a team ready made for him by Willie Taggart.  That being said I think he'll recruit very well to USF and hopefully stay there and keep milking UT for buyout money however many years it takes.

What happened in those 3 years at Texas?

He lost a lot of games. He didn't identify or recruit and develop a good enough quarterback, quickly enough, which is probably fairly hard in three years, given how rare they actually are. He was constantly questioned from the beginning. He followed an icon. He alienated Texas High School coaches and fans by recruiting Florida which I put blame on Texas for that.

Even their savior Tom Hermann hasn't exactly lit the world on fire there.

The problems at Texas are deep and below the surface.

Well Herman has only been there 3 games. Even then, barring the Maryland fiasco, he had a nice showing at USC last week. No coach usually lights it up their first season. Saban lost to UAB and Monroe his first years at LSU and Alabama

Damn good coach at the right place.  Arkansas isn't UT and it isn't Louisville, so who knows?  The timing is off for him to come here anyway, because his UT buyout money doesn't run out till 2019.  It's doubtful the Strong's will ever leave Florida, anyway.  He'll definitely be throwing his hat in the ring when Florida ditches Swamp Donkey.

LOL - and to think Bielema beat him 31-6 in his second season, holding him to negative yards rushing with a now NFL RB. In some ways, that game is probably why we are stuck with Bielema now with such a huge contract.

While I'm not endorsing the "Strong to Arkansas" argument, particularly since there doesn't appear to be an opening at the moment, I think it would be shortsighted to not acknowledge that at texas he was facing questioning and criticism from within their own boosters before he even coached his first game. Imagine Jerry Jones openly criticizing a brand new coach immediately upon his hiring, before even going through his first spring practice. He was set up for failure from the start imo. Not that I mind the horns failing in the least.

I don't know how Strong would do here, but I do know there was much agreement on how feathery soft Texas had become under Mack Brown and how the job entailed more off-the-field demands than any other college job.

Failed at Texas don't need him.

Texas is a dumpster fire and will continue to be so. Herman will fail. The next coach will fail. The next coach will fail.

The problem with Texas is Texas.

But I agree with no Strong. Wrong style to succeed here and I've seen no evidence that he can successfully switch styles.

Good recruiter. Not sold on his game planning and "X's and O's".  Good man and he seems to not take any crap from players which I like.  Just don't know if he can manage games any better than BB.  I think he is the same type of guy.

We need this man.
No. Arkansas needs a genius as a HC.

All of our best coaches have been innovators.

We are not a school that is going to get any higher than a 9-win ceiling without an edge. That edge *could have been* being one of the few pro-style offenses in a division with 5 spread teams (6 if you count Alabama's evolution toward more spread concepts). Except we can't build the defense that goes with it or the OL to power it. That is the reason I got on board with CBB when he came here. Being different gives advantages: You become attractive to TE's who are increasingly important in football. You should be able to recruit OL who want to learn pro blocking schemes. Etc.

So if we go looking for a new coach, we need someone that is going to bring an edge with them.

CCS is a decent individual and I think he is better than he performed at Tejas. But he would not improve on CBB's performance in any meaningful way.
