Alabama 59 - Vandy 0.  Alabama total offense 670 yards - Vandy's 70 yards.  Good news was few Vandy players were injured; none killed and none captured.  :)

Per @SECNetwork, margin of 599 yards of total offense – Alabama's 677 yards to Vanderbilt's 78 yards – marked the largest ever for Alabama

Alabama's 38 first downs vs. Vandy were its most in a single game in program history.

So it was a 599 yard margin instead of the 600 I earlier stated?  Whew, that's a load off!!!!  :)

As far I can tell, this is the 1st time Alabama & Auburn have both scored 50-plus in an SEC game on the same day.

Four takeaways from Alabama's win over Vanderbilt: Offense changes with Tua

QuoteThese Commodores were supposed to be better and Alabama had just authored a less-than-spectacular performance against Colorado State the previous week.

Yet the Tide roughed up Vanderbilt from beginning to end, delivering haymakers that could be heard well beyond the Nashville city limits.

The pass rush had bite, Alabama's offensive line was powerful and the Tide played with clinical precision. These are among the four takeaways from the Saturday afternoon massacre of Vanderbilt:

3. Offense looks different with Tagovailoa

Jalen Hurts' record is nothing short of remarkable.

He's 17-1 as the Crimson Tide's starter and the reigning SEC Offensive Player of the Year.

Yet even he seems fascinated and amazed by his backup, Tua Tagovailoa.

Hurts' jaw dropped when he watched Tagovailoa evade a pack of rushers and deliver a 27-yard touchdown strike to DeVonta Smith in the third quarter.

"I was like, 'Wow,'" Hurts said. "He made me say wow. I was like, 'Wow, he just did it. That's a heck of a play.' [It was like] he was playing a video game."

Tagovailoa has sparked interest across Alabama's fan base not just because of the highlights he makes but also because of his style of play and the way the offense changes when he's in the game.

Just look at the other touchdown throw he delivered to Jerry Jeudy.

Jeudy ran a deep crossing route from left to right while Tagovailoa hung in the pocket before unloading the ball just as the Tide's freshman receiver sprinted outside the hashmarks on the other side of the field.

It was the kind of pass Hurts rarely delivers.

Will @VandyFootball bounce back or suffer 'hangover' from Alabama loss? http://tnne.ws/2yD7Ar5

QuoteVanderbilt coach Derek Mason emphasized the experience of his team when it beat then-No. 18 Kansas State for the Commodores' biggest win this season.

Now he hopes that maturity can help Vanderbilt recover from its biggest loss in 23 years.

"I'd like to think so," Mason said after a 59-0 loss to No. 1 Alabama on Saturday. "... We'll see what Tuesday and Wednesday look like in terms of whether or not this team wakes up with a hangover. We've got to get this right."

Vanderbilt has 39 upperclassmen, easily the most experienced team in Mason's four-year tenure. After the loss, Mason and players talked about turning the page quickly rather than dwelling on the ugliness of the 59-point loss, the fifth-largest losing margin in program history.

Vandy coach talks 'anger and stench' of Alabama loss.

Quote"It's one thing to be disappointed," Mason said Wednesday on the SEC media teleconference. "Disappointment goes away. The anger and stench of a loss like that, you don't wash it off. You don't take a shower and it rolls down the drain. That's about getting back to work with a certain mentality."

Alabama (4-0) handled the Commodores in practically every way. The hosts managed just 78 total yards --

Bama broke a school record with 38 first downs while giving up just three.

"It wasn't good football," Mason said. "It wasn't good coaching. We didn't compete. There wasn't a sense of urgency like in my option and we never responded."

Nick Saban talked some about the Crimson Tide's win over Vanderbilt and the team's upcoming game against Ole Miss

Quote-- On dominating Vanderbilt: "I think that's the way we want to try to play so you're always pleased when you get what you want from your team. But also there's a 24-hour rule that that game's over and done and we need to focus on moving forward, looking forward. Use that game to determine what we do to build on and move on and kind of get to the next challenge.

-- On Ole Miss: "Obviously they're a very explosive offensive team. Great passing game. Over 400 yards per game. Playing a lot better on defense. Very aggressive and physical.

"This is a division game for us. These have sort of an extra importance. ... We're focused on doing what we need to continue to do to improve as a team."
