McDonalds continues to lose customers.

While McDonald’s (MCD) has made progress in becoming a more profitable company, it has steadily bled customers since dropping the Dollar Menu in 2012. That menu was always a mixed blessing for the fast-food chain. It drove traffic, but it encouraged customers to spend less by offering them an extensive array of choices that only cost $1.

IMO the bottom like is most of the stores need to be cleaner and better customer service add that most towns have several other choices price alone not going to bail them out.

I missed this when you first posted it DeltaBoy but in that article, Easterbook misses the most important point - not only did McDonald's drop the dollar menu, but in creating the McPick menu, McDonald's continued to scale back the portion size of their burgers and sandwiches.  Paying more and getting less has shut down many a restaurant in the past and will (eventually) be the end of McDonald's if they don't get it together.

Today's quarter pounder is smaller than its ever been - and getting smaller and more expensive. The value meals have jumped from the middle to high $4 range not all that long ago to the high $6 range.  McDonald's high end sandwich meals are in the $7 - $8 range.

For that price, I'm dining elsewhere so I can get something that actually has taste.  McDonald's is in real trouble and while cleaner stores and improved customer service will help the experience, it's their prices that are slowly killing them.

They aren't worried about your taste.

It's those transgendered bathrooms that'll bring them down.  ;D

Clearly they are only worried about grabbing my dollars - which isn't happening anywhere as near as often as it used to.

Now I'm sure McDonald's won't miss my little contributions to their bottom line, but it certainly appears a growing number of people are abandoning the golden arches these days.

As an aside, it's interesting your stock chart cuts off in 2012 - when the problem really started....truncated graphs tell (selectively) less than the full story.

Could care less what MCD does or doesn't do. "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn".

If you don't recognize a changing environment, best of luck to you and your portfolio.

If you get overly concerned at every little change, good luck to whatsoever is left of your portfolio.

Different administration now, we can just let that run into the ditch out back, except it's worth something these days.

I am old but have always assumed Mc Donalds made their money in the hamburger industry.  I am so old I remember when their burgers were 19 cents.  Anyway I went yesterday through a drive thru and ordered a Big Mac and a cheeseburger. It was 10:17 am and was told no burgers until 10:30.  So I guess I can get pancakes 24 hours a day BUT in regards to the product which made them billions of dollars only available during designated hours.

They could wait and open at 10:30 if you prefer.

I guess I have eaten a McDonald's an average of probably two to three times a week since about 1972 when the first one in Arkansas was built on JFK Blvd, in NLR.  I have never gotten sick from McDonalds food, not even as much as an upset stomach.  (Knock on wood).

This thread makes me want some McFries.  I headed to MickeyD's right after work!
