Civilization VI
« on: August 18, 2016, 08:02:26 am »

Anyone here a Civilization addict like me?  Civ VI comes out in October and it looks quite different.  New concepts like districts and government policies are going to be interesting.

I'm still trying to master Civ V.

I am looking forward to it.  I have spent many nights playing and losing track of time then realizing it was time to go to work.

Civ V was really incomplete at launch and really needed the expansions to feel fleshed out.  The new Alpha Centauri supposedly suffered from the same problem.  I love me some Civ but I figure this is one I'll wait and pick up as a bundle on steam for 15 bucks in a year or 2.

I've been stuck in Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings which pulled ahead of the Civilization franchise around Civ4/EU3

I used to play Civilization back in the day.  How much has the game evolved over the years?

That and Command and Conquer Red Alert Series were my favorites.

Quite a bit.

Take the system for barbarians;  you can still derive tech, for example, by raiding a barbarian camp or abandoned village,  but they can also spawn units that will try to map out your territories and cities.

The tile system has become a bit more important;  there are things called adjacency bonuses now--  you don't mass build everything in every city to up that city's contribution to your empire-- you determine what is best there, by topography and technology.

I have not played Civ since Civ 2 and 3,but I played both of those an embarrassing amount of time. I've been tempted before and might be tempted again. My problem right now is that I have too many games that I have bought but not played, and a couple of those are the kinds where you spend a ludicrous amount of time playing (The Witcher 3, e.g.). So I probably won't end up playing this, but I'll regret not doing so. But the problem is that there are too many games to play. My back log exists partly because I did almost nothing for the past year but play Fallout 4. The Build-Your-Own-Colonies thing is what did me in. Come to think of it, that isn't too different from Civ.
