QuoteRolando Howell, one of the most decorated high school basketball players to ever come out of South Carolina, died Wednesday night. He was 34.

Howell broke his C5 vertebrae as the result of a fall following a seizure and had been left paralyzed.  He recently was released from the rehabilitation center and was back at his home in Columbia.

Howell was a star at Lower Richland High School and was named a McDonald's All American as a senior.  He signed with Eddie Fogler and USC and went on to score 970 points in his career.  He helped the Gamecocks reach the 2004 NCAA Tournament but missed it due to a broken wrist.
