If we are either a 4 or a 5, looks like I might be able to go to all of the games, which is a 1st.  We usually wind up playing while I'm at work.

Digging on this idea in a big way.

TikiHog

Looks like we could get Georgia 1st round

razCzar

Speculating about driving over from Atlanta is one reason for figuring this out EARLY.  That, and enabling others to plan ahead.

One possible exception to these late games is if Hogs lose Wednesday night, we play Thurs afternoon instead Thurs night.

Distinct possibility.  Hope not though, preferring not to play UGA four games in a row.

TikiHog

I think the only way it doesn't happen is if we sweep them and Tennessee sweeps MSU then we'll get Tennessee

SPAL

How far do we wanna go in the SECT? You go from an SEC foe straight into the tournament and assuming you go all the way, you have 4 days to recover.

Do we blow through our arms and try to win or just take a conservative approach and save our pitching for a run to Omaha?

flippinhogmana

Well...as I am sure you know SPAL, it seems almost as if we dont try and win many games in the SECT for the reason of it putting us in a pitching hole...and that was when we had more arms....at least some have hypothesized that was DVH's strategy...

I would like to play at least 3 games just to get our pitchers work and not have too big a layoff.

razCzar

I can understand preserving the arms for the regional, but one of these years we need to actually win this thing.  Tired of being one of the three that never has.

I would love playing 6 games in a row and all of them being the late game and that is a possibility for Arkansas, but that's just for myself. I wouldn't wish that for my Hogs unless it is necessary to improve our RPI.

Like Howie and bulldog said, play enough games to get the pitchers work (and maybe some of the 2nd tier guys) , but see how far the hitting takes us without stretching any pitcher to far. And, like C says, one of these years we need to win this thing. I'll add that if we mess up at Georgia this week and our RPI gets much worse, we are going to have to try to play several games in the SECT to bring the RPI back up and we won't do it with the bottom part of the SEC teams, we'll have to play the top 4 and/or Auburn and/or Ole Miss.

The worst we can finish in the SEC is 4th in the West and 7th overall at 15-14.

The best we can finish is #2 in the West and #2 overall (by our self) at 18-11.

This weekends schedule is setup so every team ahead of us is playing someone below us.

The only game that will hurt our RPI if the underdog wins is LSU vs USCe.

Winning 2 games against Georgia guarantees us 3rd in the west and 5th overall.

IF WE SWEEP Georgia:
It takes a Bama sweep to pass Vandy.
A&M has to go 1-2 against Ole Miss for us to finish ahead of A&M.
Florida has to go 1-2 against Auburn for us to finish ahead of Florida.

IF WE GO 2-1 against Georgia:
Nobody can pass us or catch us, but we could pass A&M and Florida and finish 3rd overall.

IF WE GO 1-2: win at least 1:
We are guaranteed at least 4th in the West and 7th overall, but could finish 5th overall.

Good job everyone except Faldon.

razCzar

Phil just cleared up a point of some confusion:  Hogs beat the Dogs twice, and GA can not make SECT;  which seems to solve the issue of having to play them 4 in a row.

TikiHog

Phil isn't correct on this one...If Georgia goes 1-2 and Tennessee goes 2-1 they will tie at 10-19...Georgia swept Tennessee and will advance

Thanks C,
Looks like if we win 1 this weekend ,we will hang onto 5th overall and if we win 2 and Florida loses 2 we pass them and finish 4th. If we get swept, we could end up 7th. That's pretty much all that remains to be worked out, right?

I don't think we get swept. Tomorrow will be a good game. We'll have (probably our best pitcher) McKinney on the mound and Jackson is fresh and we'll use Tacco if need be. Tomorrow is a big game. Lawlor is a good pitcher, but I don't think he will be as good as the guy we faced tonight.

A win on Friday locks up 5th place overall and a Florida loss keeps us in the hunt for 4th place overall. 2 Florida losses and 2 Hog wins puts us in 4th overall.

We cannot catch Vandy, LSU and A&M.

Ole Miss and Missouri are the only 2 teams that can catch us because we own the tie breaker over Kentucky.

UF is 1.5 up on us. If we win 2 and UF loses 2 that still puts them at .5 ahead of us, because we would only be gaining a game on them. We have to win 2 and UF has to be swept for us to catch them.

Florida only has 2 games left; same as us.  So if we win our 2 games and FL loses the remaining 2 games, we would finish fourth.

Yes, meaning they got swept by Auburn. I thought he was referring to UF losing 2 in their series, not their 2 remaining. My mistake. UF lost to Auburn last night. I may be completely wrong, but I do not see there being any way they get swept by Auburn when they are battling for a national seed.

Yeah, what I was talking about is from today forward meaning we win 2 and Florida loses 2, we finish ahead of them. 1 win today or tomorrow gives us 5th place no matter what anybody else does. I know you already knew that.  :)

razCzar

It was just mentioned in the pre-game show that, not surprisingly, last night's winner Sosebee is expected to be the Tuesday night starter.  That would be a tough draw for a single elimination game.

True.

Add to that a Bama loss;  and we end up playing them Tuesday night... to likely a packed house.  Vols would take their place as the 11-seed.

If you think about it, not so far-fetched.

Oh man, the bottom of the 9th inning of the MSU -Tenn game is wild.  MSU walks two batters, next guy sac bunts.  But MSU 1st baseman doesn't actually tag him.  Home plate ump calls him out, reverses.  Tenn goes on to win.
