Saw on one of the college football final shows this morning, sorry I cant remember which one but it was mentioned that some of the Vegas oddsmakers had the Hogs being a +1.5 point underdog to Florida State if played on a neutral site. Thought that was interesting. Anyone else see/hear that?

Yes, a reputable Vegas book tweeted that out last night and it was retweeted by several people

anything on the mizzou line?

I'm thinking Mizzou -2
sometimes it's a good and some times it's a schit

I saw that on the SEC network, but I think that they said that was if Brandon Allen was healthy at QB.

I got Hogs/MIZ at a pk. Whatever it is, we will cover big.

I'm thinking Mizzou will likely come out as a -3 and that'll come down over the week. That's just a guess based on the last few weeks.

Damn FSU -1.5? Jameus' head would be spinning trying to only win by one without losing the game.

All they need to do every year is ask the Vegas oddsmakers who are the best 4 teams in the country--and there are your playoff teams.  They guys are hard nosed realists.  They have no loyalty to anyone.  They are in business to make money.  Their poll is the only poll that you can count on to be accurate.  8 teams would be even better, but if I want to know who the best teams are I just ask Las Vegas--that's why I wasn't surprised when Alabama beat Mississippi State--neither were the oddmakers, LOL.

Dr. Starcs

How does one find Vegas odds?  Not on regular games, but "what if games and matchups"?

I'd be curious to see a potential line on a lot of teams with us.

Heard the same thing late last night.  With the way Florida State has been cutting it close I'd think the Hogs would be favored.

I'd take the Hogs -3 at a neutral site today.

This is truth.

So, do you trust a bunch of media types, coaches' polls, or even an esteemed committee to rank teams? Or take guys' words whose livelihood depends on being right? Anyone who pays attention to football realizes that the guys in Vegas pretty nail it most of the time, at least, more often than anyone else. Again, it's because they have to.

Here's how I would rank the accuracy of various 'pundits'
1)Vegas sportsbooks
2)CollegeFootballNews.com
3)Phil Steele
4)others

Excellent post.

This exactly. I don't see why they haven't done this; Vegas isn't run by the mob anymore.

Looks like the line might open as a pick'em

We would stomp a mudhole  in florida state.

maybe i'm wrong, but listening to cowherd the last few months i think there are a lot of people that don't understand the way a sports book works. cowherd being one of them.

points are a market function to entice as many people for a certain outcome as against it.

the reason a sports book is dispassionate is that they aren't betting they're working for the juice. used to be 10%.

if arkansas played fsu i'm guessing the spread would be 10-14, that's what it would take to convince enough people to take arkansas and the points as it would to take fsu and bring the book into balance.

your not betting against the house, your betting against another person the book just facilitates the trade.
