Delaware State beat Penn at the Palestra, in overtime, to open the season. Delaware State has a 6-10, 240 senior center, Kendall Gray, and three other seniors who play a lot. Strange - like the Hogs, DSU plays North Texas, Iona and Wake Forest this season.

SMU big man Markus Kennedy is ineligible for the first semester, and 5-star Emmanuel Mudiay went pro overseas. Larry Brown's still playing nine players, but they didn't match up well against Gonzaga, losing 72-56. Gonzaga has all sorts of size, which made it very hard for the Ponies to score inside. SMU didn't defend the perimeter well either. Against an ordinary defense, SMU will run a disciplined offense and get tons of layups. Their starting big guys made 17-21 against Lamar.

North Texas starts nobody over 6-7 and starts two freshmen. One starter soon probably will be Marquette transfer T.J. Taylor, a 6-3 senior guard. The main scorer is 6-6 senior wing Jordan Williams, a double-digit scorer in most games the past two years. Rebounding is their entire game, no shooting and poor ballhandling.

Iona won 20+ games five years straight. They are 1-1, including a loss at Wofford (Southern Conference champs last year) this morning. Iona has a good big man, David Laury (6-9, 245 sr), and guard A.J. English (6-4 jr). Wofford hurt them with a three-guard lineup, killed Iona on the boards without any size, made their defense look awful.

Plenty on Iowa State is elsewhere on the board.

Clemson is 1-1 after losing at home to Winthrop by 3. Gregg Marshall made Winthrop very good...a long time ago. Last year the Eagles did win 20 but didn't go to the postseason. Still, Clemson isn't supposed to lose to Winthrop. Clemson plays a three-forward lineup, while Winthrop used basically four guards, finished +10 in turnover margin and killed 'em from outside.

Dayton has only played Alabama A&M, won by 24 in a slow-paced game. They get TAM next. Dayton starts a guard named Scoochie, so that's great. Expect three guards, heavy rebounding emphasis, and a lot of passing.

That's a tough way to make a living. For their sake I hope they are extraordinary overachievers.

Nice Scouting.  This non-conference schedule is not joke this year, really don't have any gimmie's every game we're going to have to bring it or it could be an upset.
