I guess Wake Forest can play some perimeter defense

The Demon Deacons held Tulane to 1-20 from 3-point range last night. Wake Forest won the road game 71-49.

Wake Forest also had 18 turnovers, six from 6-1 junior guard Madison Jones.

They made up for sloppy ballhandling by dominating the boards -- 81% defensive, 40% offensive.

Leaders in minutes:

32 Codi Miller-McIntyre (6-3 jr) - 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
26 Jones
24 Devin Thomas (6-9, 255 jr) - had 13 points, 12 rebounds
22 Darius Leonard (6-9, 225 sr)
19 Greg McClinton (6-7 fr)
19 Konstantinos Mitoglou (6-10 fr)
17 Mitchell Wilbekin (6-2 fr) - 4 steals, 2 threes, 2 assists, 2 rebounds
13 Aaron Rountree (6-8 jr)
12 Cornelius Hudson (6-6 fr)
12 Miles Overton (6-4 so)
3 Andre Washington (7-0 jr)
1 Rondale Watson (6-3 fr)

Maybe this will be the game when Portis and Moses get some playing time together.

We'll pull away in the second half and win by 20

We were barely able to do that against a SWAC team. Pass me some of what you're smoking.

Alabama state is probably better than wake forest. I think wake forest was picked last in the ACC.

Biggus Piggus

Wake Forest definitely has better bigs than Alabama State had. The SWAC guys had better guards, no doubt. At least two of them anyway. Give Arkansas their point guard and two guard, you're talking Final Four.

The ACC is looking like a pretty good conference at the moment.

That line of thinking is so out of date.

Wake Forrest is sloppy with the ball, too many turnovers. That will get them killed in the Bud. I agree with the previous poster. If they don't clean that up, we will probably win by 15 to 20.
I spent most of my life drankin', gamblin', and chasing women, the rest I just wasted.

LOL, pump the brakes.  Alabama State's guards were good, but making us a final four contender good?  I think not.  You give us the Harrison twins and then you may be on to something.  Alabama State's guards would definitely be SEC level, but it would be on the level of players like Craig Sword, Charles Mann, KT Harrell, guys like that.  And those guys are definitely not final four difference makers.

I've not been terribly impressed by the Harrison twins.  Not saying they are bad players, just that, other than a couple of big 3 pointers by Aaron in the NCAAT, they've not really been offensive difference makers, especially relative to their pedigrees.  Maybe they shine more as sophomores.

My post was more about Alabama State guards not being Final Four caliber guards more than anything.  Me personally I'd feel better of us being a final 4 team with the Harrison's (since they actually helped lead their team to the final four as freshmen) rather than Alabama State's, but that's just me.

True.  Alabama State's guards were solid, but the idea that they'd take Arkansas to the Final Four is a bit much.  One game isn't a good indicator.  We looked like a national title contender against Ole Miss near the end of last season...and followed it up with a loss at Alabama where we looked like the worst team in the SEC.

DeMarcus Robinson torched us from three and is shooting 66% from behind the stripe this season...but he is 5'10" and shot 27% from distance last year.  He is off to a hot start but is very likely to cool in the near future.

1st game of the season. That Alabama State team is going to come in way more hungry than Arkansas. We were able to go over-the-top when it mattered. That's a team we put away by 30+ in February. No disrespect meant to Alabama State, because they probably are the best team in the SWAC, but we looked like what we are -- an early season team. We're still working on some things.

^ This right here.  I'm not trying to take anything away from Alabama State, I give them all the credit in the world, they should win the SWAC fairly easy and be in the tournament.  I'm just not convinced their guards are final four caliber, their aren't many teams in the country that have final four caliber guards.  I think Alabama State is probably the equivalent of a Miss State, Vandy, Alabama, and Auburn of last year.  Wake Forest should be a pretty decent test, I haven't seen them play this year, but from what I've read about their team, they should be better than Alabama State.

Arkansas doesn't need Final Four guards to have a Final Four team.

You think their starting guards are better than our starting guards?  When I say our starting guards I'm talking about Madden, Bell, and Qualls.

If you want to call Madden and Qualls guards. Place them on the best MA/Nolan teams of the past, and they would not play anywhere but on the wing. Bell would be the shooting specialist, though his game is coming along alright. Doesn't rebound a lick still, but man he can score, and adding some defense now too.

Madden would sniff the floor before the Alabama st. Guards..

I sure hope they replay that game again on the SEC network, I didn't DVR it.

The really cool thing about last night: Arkansas did not shoot from 3-point range unless it was an obvious, must-take shot. Wake had so much trouble stopping the Hogs inside the arc that eventually they would leave the shooter open from outside. You can't focus on the shooters, because Arkansas isn't obsessed with creating 3-point shots.

A sure turnaround from years past.
