Names of NCAA MBB tournament rounds are finally going to make sense again

Rounds of 64 and 32 will return to being called the first and second rounds in 2016:

H/t: During the NCAA tournament, news organizations, fans and teams were often confused by one very simple fact: What round is this?

Since the expansion of the tournament to include an opening round of games of the lowest-seeded teams to fight to get into the actual tournament in 2011, the NCAA has taken to calling the opening round — which consists of the final four at large-teams fighting for a chance to take on a top-seeded team that they will most likely lose to — "the first four" with winners advancing to what was known as the "second round". Because what they called the second round was the first round with an entire slate of games, oftentimes the NCAA and people trying to follow the NCAA's format were the only ones who referred to it as the second round, leaving everyone generally confused.

Luckily, according to an NCAA announcement on Monday, these annual weeks of confusion will be over — at least in 2016.
