Same thing that happens every fall, 48-50 players for 35 spots.

This happens every year. Fall ball is over   Players know their not on the 35 man roster or redshirt candidate. So they go find a place to play.

For a number of years folks have been encouraging DVH to get more aggressive in recruiting higher ranked (more draft eligible) players, this past couple of years especially he has done so.  For a number of years people have been clamoring for new draft rules for mlb that didn't raid college teams quite so bad.  The last draft agreement helped in that direction.  The end result of those two changes?

This year we have a much higher rated group coming in than normal because we didn't lose as many to the draft; two, we had more veteran players come back than is normal or expected also.  The fact that we can only have thirty five on our roster but have in the high forties athletes who were recruited to come doesn't jive.  Something has to give.  We do face this every year to some extinct, but nothing like this year.  By my count there are still three or four yet that we will be unable to be put on the roster.
