This mirrors what I was assuming the other day.

Leaving out goal line.

1st & 10 - We run 70% of the time.
Gain 6+ yards on 1st down and we run over 80% of the time on 2nd down.
Anything more than 2nd and 4 and it is close to 50/50 for run or pass.
3rd and 2 or less - We run 87% of the time
3rd and 3+ = We pass over 70% of the time.

I personally think 1st down and 10 and 3rd and less than 2 that we should mix it up more.

Im thinking that a strong, confident run team would take more shots down the field on 2-1 & 2-2

Most disturbing to me is the amount of passes we have attempted from 2-10. If we have a play go for no go gain or a pass incomplete on first down. Guess what we r gonna pass it on second and if that goes bad then bam we start this predictable play pattern that almost always seems to go the way of the 3 and out. We really as an offense need to gain something on first down and stay on schedule

Nice work!

I wish you'd done this for SEC games only, though.  The numbers are skewed by games where we simply ran over the other team.

Yea, that's a good point.

I thought about that as well. My thinking was that if we are running for 7-8 yards on 1st down that am not as upset if we run it on 2nd down after obvious success running on 1st down. However, I do agree 2nd and less than 3 is a great time to take a shot downfield and only passing the ball 2 times in those situations seems like we are not trying to take advantage.

Why, so we can get sacked and fumble or better yet throw a pick? Why not go ahead pick up the first down and move the chains.

First, looking at sacks and INT's. Allen has only been sacked 8 times on 182 attempts this year and  thrown 4 Interceptions. For comparison, that is better than Dak Prescott who has 4 Int's and 10 sacks in 156 attempts.
Secondly, I don't think you understood my post since I said I am fine with running for it on 2nd and short. However, if you are going to do play-action you have a better shot on downs when the defense is expecting run. Since we run the ball over 80% of the time in those situations, you not only have a shot at a big play but on 3rd down you would still be 3rd and short and have the option to run for a 1st down.

Plus when the defense doesn't know if you are going to run or throw it deep on 2nd and short it actually increases the chance you break off a long run when you actually do run the ball on 2nd and short.

Heck, it's not even important if you ever complete the pass on those deep balls. Just the threat of it happening is enough to get the defense to back off. So far we have thrown it 1 out of 15 times on 2nd and short. No threat at all.
