Sumlin was asked on his radio show by a fan this week about the mental state of his team following two blowout losses to Mississippi State and Ole Miss, and with No. 7 Alabama up next in Tuscaloosa, Ala., starting 2:30 p.m. Saturday on CBS.

"Hopefully (the players) are better than most of the people I run into around here," Sumlin said. "Otherwise we've got no chance."

"We're one of the only teams in the top 25 that's playing eight weeks in a row," he said. "There's a physical and mental strain on these guys that ... I've addressed this week. We've changed practice up a little bit, cut back a little bit. At times like this it's, 'Do we do more, or do we do less?' That's our job as coaches to figure that out.

"That's not an excuse. Scheduling is scheduling, but this has been a grind. Particularly for a lot of young players who've been playing, who've kind of hit a wall. (True freshman safety) Armani Watts started the year as a great ball of fire. Now he's limping around ... he's got mid-terms ... It's just a whole 'nuther deal for these guys. (True freshman receiver) Speedy (Noil) actually caught a break by getting a couple of weeks off (with a knee injury). ... It's tough."

At this point, every game could be a playoff knock-out game. Alabama needs this one to keep up with the Mississippis. It will also be a test of Alabama's offense, which struggled mightily a week ago in the 14-13 win over Arkansas.

Three things to look for:

1. Blake Sims: For the first time this season, he forced passes to top playmaker Amari Cooper at Arkansas. Two of the passes should have easily been intercepted...

A&M receiver Ricky Seals-Jones saw a whole lot of tears in the crowd two years ago when the Aggies played at Alabama - both from the home crowd and the visiting fans.

"It was a hostile crowd, but it took the breath out of that stadium when we won," Seals-Jones said.


As for then-sophomore receiver Malcome Kennedy's breathtaking, game-winning catch against the Crimson Tide?

"I was jumping up and down," Seals-Jones said, smiling.

All from his living room couch at home in Sealy, as a touted high school senior enamored with the Aggies.
