This fight reminded me of why I hate boxing. Sweet science where? Grab, stumble, grab, throw a wild haymaker. Watching that fight made me wonder how either of those guys won anything.

JT used to pummel fighters with that nice jab for the first 8 rounds before fading like cheap paint. He got lucky he fought a bum tonight. I wouldn't pit him against anyone higher than Friday Night Fights quality. He'd be orphaning his kids against anyone with any talent.

Soliman is older now and got hurt during the fight but he's still Sam Soliman. Not a easy one by any means.

I listened to Lou D'Bella (sp?) on the The Buzz today. He said they would be very picky about who Jermaine fought next. Said they would be extra careful with Jermaine's safety in the ring.

The fact that they have to be extra careful about who they choose for safety reasons should be a good indicator to the that this might not be the best idea.

They can be as careful as they want, but even a lesser opponent has the chance of catching JT with a shot that wrecks him. There's that chance for every fighter, but his is even more significant coming off of a serious brain injury, even if it was 5 years ago.

Taylor always had a hard time finishing
Maybe it's an Arkansas thing.

He did get caught a few times by right hands, and he seemed to take them pretty well, which surprised me.  It makes you wonder how good he could have been had he stuck with Burns all along, and stayed away from the "night life."

The turning point in his career was early when his straight right hand couldn't take out the top level competition.  That seemed to frustrate him, but the truth is...he never had one punch KO power except against the lower level competition.  The WORST thing that could have ever happened to him was Stewart convincing him that he could coach him into having more knockout power, and to "sit down" on his punches.

He could have beaten everyone in his division with movement and his precise jab.  Instead, he developed the mentality to "bang" it out, and he never had that kind of power.  It's like trying to teach someone how to be a long hitter at golf.  You either have it...or you don't.  If you don't, you better be accurate and have a great short game.  He should have developed that jab, and he could have been champ for years IMO.
I've never wanted a Hog coach to be successful more than I do for Pittman.  He's one of the good guys.

It really helps that he hasn't had a fight with anyone with anything approaching even average for the weight class power.    Every one of those right hands he ate last night made me cringe;  it was nice to see him absorb them,  but the holes these marginal guys are still finding, would be filled with much better punches against a Golovko or even a Miguel Cotto.    I really hope Jermaine keeps stringing along fighting these tin cans as long as he can,  and bringing in the cash.    He deserves to go out with his brain intact, though.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I just don't understand folks from Arkansas ragging on JT.
He's a very good boxer - better than we've ever seen come out of this state.
You don't win an Olympic Bronze and legit title and suck.
Is he the boxer he once was - probably not.
Has he had a successful career as a professional boxer - you bet.
He may have had a better career if he had kept Burns - but he's not the first or last to make a career mistake.
Taylor has every reason to proud of what he has accomplished.

I don't think most of it is ragging. I think most of it is concern. He's a shell of his former self. He could get badly injured for a money grab.

This. After seeing him get clobbered at the end of fights and knowing that he got brain damage from one of those beat downs...I just don't like seeing him get punched at all.

Me either. He's always been hard to understand, but it seemed to me that he was even harder to understand talk last night than usual. It may have been my imagination though.

JT has 3 daughters;  I think they'd rather have a JT that recognizes them, than have the money he's trying to bring in by extending his career past a brain injury.

I agree.  If the money hungry boxing promoters are dropping you there's usually a good reason why.

I'm not talking about the ones concerned for his health.
I understand that concern - It was hard to watch him fight - because you're holding your breath hoping he doesn't get hurt.

Sounds kind of like trying to beat Bama and LSU at their own game without all the talent.

I did like the huge red Razorback Hog on the back of Jermaine's trunks.  Now, that's supporting our Razorbacks, folks!

War....the issue with continuing to say that ad nauseum is that when it comes to the O line and D line, some would argue that we're right there with Bama at the moment.

If superior talent always won out, then there'd be no reason to play the season out.  Just give the NC to the team with the most "stars" and supposed "talent" right?  With that argument, there's no way UL Monroe would ever beat either Bama or the UA.  It happened though.

Right now it may be a stretch to think that we are close enough in talent to compete with the SEC west week in and week out, but what are you going to say next year when we do just that?

Hog Collar

U of A needs to ask him to take the Hog off of his robe... He's looking at some serious legal issues.  Not good publicity....

I'm not going to lie...I wondered about that myself.  I don't know any details about what happened, but to be out on bail alone doesn't really say much positive.  Hopefully, it wasn't all his fault and it ends up being an unfortunately learning experience.  No one died right?   ???  He just popped a cap in his cousin or something?

I know nothing about the laws governing use of a likeness, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't licensed apparel.  Anyone out there know if there could be any legal ramifications for that if the UA was so inclined?
