Apparently, it is making the rounds among Tech fans.

I am unfamiliar with the Rock City Times . . . not particularly funny, nor creative, IMO.

Rock City Times is a satiracal Arkansas web site.  They are generally pretty funny

They missed badly on the funny part on this one.

SquidBilly

Would have been funnier without the PETA and gun control references.

King TUSKankahamun

I found it comical given the bug uproar over that girl. Found it even more comical that some people believed it was true

I see idiots sharing stories on FB from there thinking they are true.

BorderPatrol

Wow, I can't believe folks actually believed this. And I can't even begin to imagine why folks are in an uproar about this.

I mean, come on. It is satire.

That much was pretty obvious.  I didn't have to be familiar with the site to see what it was trying to do.  It's the "funny" part that they missed on this one.

I'm as up for good, clever satire as just about anyone.  This one . . . was neither, IMO.

I actually thought they hit it out of the park, but not everyone's sense of humor is the same.

The people on Facebook that are asking if it's true are married, have kids, employed, and vote.  Think about that

Agreed they are awful and I don't find them funny at all.  I too am a bit surprised that one of our redneck fans hasn't taken a shot at Tusk over the years.

Isn't that the website that had the London Times reprinting a 'story' about a man eating 400 hamburgers or something like that?

Yes, and it had doctors in china believing the red lobster cheddar biscuit story.

In general?  To complain about the world, politics, Obama, and people OR to brag about the good parts of their life OR to connect with friends and family OR to post pics of food and their children

I'm married, one son, employed, vote and am on Facebook occasionally yet I recognize satire when I see it and laugh. It isn't always right or smart to generalize or stereotype.

My friends already know my thoughts and feelings. I figure the ones who post questioning this article's validity, have more important issues at hand.

LZH

When I first got on facebook I posted something almost every day....usually music, or pics and stories of trips, etc.  This went on for about six months and one morning I noticed that someone very close to me had obviously been drinking and posted something the night before that I'm sure she regretted.  With the exception of responding to something a friend writes or checking out my company page, I have stayed away ever since.

It's bad enough to do it on here, but posting something that all of your family and friends are gonna see..........ugh [shudder].  Another reason that I'm so glad I don't drink like I used to.

LittlePigMan

I had been following the cheerleader story so I thought the gist of it was funny but the writing fell kinda flat.  Especially the last couple of paragraphs.

Hmmm, I think you may have misinterpreted what I said. Not sure what you thought I was generalizing or stereotyping. That's ok.

If it helps, I was making fun of folks who are incapable of understanding what satire is.

This response is 100 times funnier than the article.  Man, I love satire but that one sucked the big one.  Makes me wonder if Robert Shields is now writing for Rock City Times.

You realize he wasn't sterotyping right? He was stating how crazy it is that someone so stupid that they don't realize its a satire, are doing all of those things which one would assume requires a bit more intelligence then they showed by believing said story.

Basically he's saying its scary that the people too slow to realize its a satire are also parenting this country's youth, and voting on the leaders of our nation lol.

Rock City Times is generally pretty funny. Given that there is a Texas Tech cheerleader who hunts big game who the internet has been hotly debating (for some reason) lately, and we have a live mascot, it may have been low-hanging fruit but it's still a decent joke.
