Georgia won't have freshman offensive lineman Jake Edwards available this season.

The 6-foot-4, 271-pound Heard County product will undergo knee surgery and redshirt, a source told Dawgs247. Edwards is believed to have torn both an ACL and LCL during agility drills.

Georgia had seven other players undergo ACL surgeries since the summer of 2013.

He might have redshirted anyway. 

UGa had been undergoing a program to attempt to cut down on the number of knee injuries.

A&M linebacker Shaan Washington has broken his collarbone and is out four to six weeks, Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin said after practice on Monday night.

The sophomore Washington, who's 6 foot 3 and 235 pounds, was listed alongside Donnie Baggs as a potential starter at strongside linebacker on A&M's preseason depth chart. Washington, who broke his collarbone in a Saturday scrimmage, played last season as a true freshman, even recovering a fumble against Alabama.

Washington can use this season as a redshirt year, but Sumlin described the break as "clean" and that he'll leave it up to Washington on whether he actually redshirts once he returns from the injury in another month or so...

A&M coach Kevin Sumlin said Wednesday that junior cornerback De'Vante Harris, with 18 starts over the past two seasons, is likely out for at least another month with a urinary tract "injury" – Sumlin has been clear it's not an infection – after missing the past couple of weeks of camp with the setback.

"It's a serious injury," Sumlin said. "Without going into detail, I'd say he's still a month away."

Freshman Victor Davis, who's no longer suspended from the program following his arrest earlier this year on shoplifting charges, is expected to earn the first shot to fill in for Harris.

Tennessee sophomore Josh Smith could miss several weeks after suffering an ankle injury during the Vols' loss at fourth-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday

Smith, a former star at Christian Academy of Knoxville, emerged from a frustrating freshman season to become one of Tennessee's top targets early this season, collecting 135 yards and one touchdown on 10 catches in the Vols' first three games and hauling in a 40-yard score in the loss at Oklahoma.

How much did Florida miss left tackle D.J. Humphries last week and is there any concern with that absence paired with Alabama's improved edge pass rush?

Injuries ravaged the Gators a season ago as 25 players missed a total of 126 games. But while Humphries is the only UF starter out this week, his absence could have major ramifications against an Alabama defensive line loaded with talent and depth. Humphries' injury - bone chips in his ankle – has forced senior Chaz Green to move from the right side to the left side, where his footwork and familiarity are not the same. With Green on the left side, redshirt freshman Rod Johnson made his first college start last week against Kentucky. The Wildcats applied a good bit of pressure to Driskel in the first half as he went 7 of 20 and threw an interception while under pressure. Driskel and the Gators' offense settled down during the second half, but Nick Saban and Kirby Smart undoubtedly will look to exploit the Gators' retooled offensive line.

'A little bruised' and 'sore,' Blake Sims says shoulder's 'very fine'

It appears Alabama's first bye week is coming at a most opportune time.

At the end of a third-quarter scramble in the Tide's win over Florida, Blake Sims landed awkwardly and injured his right (throwing) shoulder.  The starting quarterback was taken to the locker room for further examination but subsequently returned to both the sidelines and the game.

Following the win, Sims attempted to downplay the severity of the injury.

"It's very fine," Sims said. "Just a little bruised. I'm going to get with the training staff and try to get better and let the team know I'm good. I'm going to come out against Ole Miss (Oct. 4) and try to win the game. ...

"I'll be all right. I'm going to get with the training staff and ice it, ice it, ice it."

Sims' head coach, though, said the off weekend will prove to be beneficial for Sims as it appears the player will be somewhat limited this week in practice...

For the second consecutive game, Tennessee's receiving corps won't be at full strength.

Ahead of Saturday's game against Florida, Josh Smith has already been ruled out because of the dreaded high-ankle sprain.  Smith originally suffered the injury in the Oklahoma loss and didn't play in the loss to Georgia.

It has previously been reported that Smith could miss up to six weeks, which would sideline him until the Nov. 1 game against South Carolina.

Another receiver dealing with a high-ankle sprain, Von Pearson, "practice a little bit" Tuesday.  His status for the Gator game is up in the air.

Redshirt freshman Tyren Jones underwent surgery on a torn tendon in his finger and will be out for several weeks, Saban said. Jones was spotted pedaling on an exercise bike at practice last week but hasn't been seen during a media viewing session since Monday.

Reserve offensive lineman Grant Hill, who hadn't been spotted during a viewing session since Friday, is dealing with an illness, Saban said.

Jones was in Tenpenny's class.

"We're just trying to help him get well," Saban said. "We'll see when he's able to come back and contribute to the team."

Jones, a redshirt freshman from Marietta, Georgia, has played in the last three games and racked up 13 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown during mop-up situations.

Hill, arguably one of the Crimson Tide's most versatile offensive linemen, has seen the field in the past three games with the second-team offensive line. He'd been backing up left tackle Cam Robinson

A recently-discovered long-term medical issue has put WR Rico Johnson's playing career at UGA in jeopardy.  What the medical condition is wasn't detailed.

On his Twitter account, the player lamented whatever issue has befallen him.

UGA will likely place Johnson on medical scholarship because of the condition, per sources, though the team has yet to officially confirm that step. Per NCAA rules, a player can take a medical scholarship and continue to stay in school on scholarship while not counting against a team's 85-man limit provided he no longer continue to play football.
