This guy could be the next Greg Childs and more.

Two GREAT ARKANSAS commitments the last few days.

Greg child's was a physical specimen and loved to run through people but wasn't the fastest. Jones has elite speed and will be able to run around and by people

Very good that it's a Hog At Heart that is the recruit to get the '16 class in gear and rolling. These camps, and the relationships they are establishing, are setting the table for easier and more fluid recruiting classes down the road.
When we go bowling my biggest hope for the Hogs future will be realized, and our future recruiting will shift into overdrive.

I like Arkansas because: it's my home state and I bleed red lol

Really happy about this signing.

Why does everyone get so worked up over height, weight and 40 times?

Because I am 6'0", 164, and run a 5.1.  You don't want a team made with guys like me.  There are only two positions a guy like me COULD play.  holder and punter.

I often wonder this too.  Now, when RD says that player looks the part, or whatever it is he says, then that's different.  But I never trust measureables, simply because they're so often wrong.  When I see a guy listed with a 4.39 40, then all that means to me is that he's fast, although I know he's probably not that fast.

rzrbackramsfan

Why do we care about speed? Are you kidding me? Example: trindon holiday for lsu and now on the broncos.  That's about all he had but he tore us up and quite a few teams by just running up the field.

Obviously elite speed kills, less and less at every level.  He had some pretty good catches too in his highlight.

Strength and conditioning professionals who work with collegiate football players focus much of their time and effort on developing programs to enhance athletic performance. Although there has been much speculation, there is little scientific evidence to suggest which combination of physical characteristics best predicts athletic performance in this population. The purpose of this investigation was to examine the relationship among 6 physical characteristics and 3 functional measures in college football players. Data were gathered on 46 NCAA Division I college football players. The 3 response variables were 36.6-m sprint, 18.3-m shuttle run, and vertical jump. The 6 regressor variables were height, weight, percentage of body fat, hamstring length, bench press, and hang clean. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to screen for variables that predict physical performance. Regression analysis revealed clear prediction models for the 36.6-m (40 yards) sprint and 18.3-m (5-10-5) shuttle run. The results of this investigation will help strength and conditioning specialists better understand the variables that predict athletic performance in Division I college football players. (Davis, 2004, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research: Vol. 18, No. 1, pp. 115–12)

A prediction model for future performance, at both the college level and the NFL level (a football actuarial process, if you will).
A particular height, weight and 40 time will not guarantee success at any level of football. A lack of the accepted norms for response variables and regressor variables will assure that a player will not be noticed by the people that matter, the decision makers at both the college and NFL level...It's also kind of fun for the fans that follow recruiting.

While understandable that a 17-18 year recruit would take advantage of being treated like royalty it sure helps the program when a player commits, " Hog at Heart", and, sets an example/helps recruit future teammates.

Yes.  Same school.

As a side note, it will be interesting to see how Smackover performs the next couple of years.  Smackover competes in 3A, and was already expected to have a decent team next year.  Norphlet is a 2A school just down the road that is having to consolidate with Smackover due to falling district enrollment.  Thus, the roster size for Smackover is getting a decent bump this fall.

The_Bionic_Pig

Failed to mention he's a leaper also...meaning you can throw him the ball in traffic and he will go up and get it like Sonny Weems on the basketball court. (6'1 or 6'3) He has a explosive vertical & timing that will make a QB's over thrown balls attainable.

Gosh, I wish we could just get one of these kids to play Defense. I know he looks like he could be a great WR for us, but at 6'3" and 4.3 speed, he could have a faster track to the NFL as a Safety.

What's crazy is Hawkins is still the fastest guy on the team in a dead sprint (Yes even faster than Marshall)

So RD don't know either. We never get any kid who is as fast, tall, has the weight, wingspan or any other measurable's as reported,  we get the real information from the experts on this board and that is the TRUTH!  Next thing you experts will be guessing the real weight in one pound increments!  U experts amaze me, LMAO & Smfh

I believe we have a couple of those on the roster now.  Hines comes to mind and the sleepy guy?  Also there was a redshirt last year that had similar measureables that every raved about.

4.3 speed is more rare than a cam newton though, legit 4.3 that is.

Gotta feeling Deandre Coley will be a star at Safety.. Maybe not a starter this year but in the 2 deep rotation.

Alright, for everyone wondering about Jordan Jones, I am from Smackover and my brother is a coach for Smackover.

Jordan is 6'2" without shoes.  He is also just going to be a junior.  Plenty of room to grow.  He is Jonathan "Pookie" Modica's cousin.  Also is family to Jeff Savage who played for Arkansas.

In the 8th grade Jordan started dunking in basketball games.  In jr high basketball games he would go through the lane and dunk over people.  He is a leaper.  He is fast and he loves the game.

He still is a good basketball player and could end up having D1 offers for basketball as well.

For the last three weeks when you drive by the practice fields at smackover you see Jordan Jones and Elmo Hempstead working by themselves to get better.  No one with them...just those two running routes.  He works hard.

Grades will be fine.  He is a good kid and has his head on straight.  Glad we got him early.

Oh and just a little something extra...five minutes after Jordan comitted and my brother congratulated him on twitter...Alabama receivers coach followed my brother on twitter...i dont think that is a coincidence.

I would say that Jordan is all hog though.

Also dont sleep on Elmo Hemstead.  Colleges have been coming to the school to look at him for a while now. He will play D1 and at 6' and running a 4.5 forty at camp helped him out tremendously.

Just thought I would share a little more about a players you may not know about now, but you should soon.

Nice!

I think it was RD that said the depth of in-state talent in 2016 could surpass that of 2015 which would be saying a lot.

I am getting more fired up about our Arkansas kids that should help bring this program back to GLORY
Petrino left a mess and Bielema is trying to fill in the talent gaps.  Anderson finally has some talent to work with.  He needs more at select positions and that will come in the next recruiting class.
Posters that think they are Jim Rhome are ruining message boards.

sounds like we got a great one, love in-state kids that love the hog.  Great pickup, welcome Jordan and WPS!!!

Not quite sure yet.  It is going to depend a lot on depth.  Being from a small school it is imperative to get your playmakers on the field.  I would think that they would want to keep him off of defense if they had someone that could fill in there.  Smackover and Norphlet are consolidating so there should be a little depth added.  As far as offense I am sure you will see him in multiple positions.  You want him to be able to touch the ball as much as he can.  I would definitely say he will be on the edge at WR a good bit.  Smackover has a lot of speed at the skill position.  Jordan is definitely elite, but there are some burners there as well.  A lot of weopons.  Should make a run at it again this year after being knocked off in the semis last year.  Only lost three or four off of that team.

Yeah, I am as well.  Elmo is a good kid.  I remember being at 7th grade practice some years back when Elmo was in 7th grade.  He was running routes and you could just tell he had it.  His size has hurt him on the recruiting front, but he has grown in the last year.  He will add some weight but running a 4.5 at the camp really impressed some folks.  There have been numerous D1 schools that come in to look at him.  He had tons of interceptions the last two years.  Not a fluke.  He is always where the ball is.  He will go D1 and I would love nothing more for him than to get an offer from the hogs.  It definitely wouldnt be a waste of a scholorship.
