Tennessee announced its men's basketball nonconference schedule Wednesday, and the slate includes games with Virginia Commonwealth, Butler, Kansas State, N.C. State and three in-state opponents. Of Tennessee's 12 non conference games, seven take place at Thompson-Boling Arena. Four others will be played at a neutral site, and one is a true road game. The opponents include at least five teams who appeared in last season's NCAA Tournament and at least four teams that posted a top-100 year-end RPI in 2014. "This is a very ambitious non-conference schedule, but I think it will prepare us well for the level of competition we'll face once Southeastern Conference play begins," UT coach Donnie Tyndall said in a university release...

Jerry Tipton: Noted college basketball numbers cruncher Ken Pomeroy replied to a request for comment when Kentucky announced its non-conference schedule for next season.

As did Jerry Palm of CBSSports and Joe Lunardi of ESPN, Pomeroy noted the lack of "true" road games. UK's one non-conference game on the opponent's court is at Louisville.

Wrote Pomeroy in an email message: "Given that there's only one true road game here, I'd estimate that this schedule will rate out as around average for a top 25 team."

State announced Monday it has come to an agreement with [former SEC member] Tulane for a two-game deal, beginning this year in New Orleans on Dec. 6.

The remainder of MSU's non-conference slate is nearly complete, with an announcement expected shortly.

A&M mens basketball team released its non-conference schedule for the 2014-2015 season. The highlights include a home game vs. Arizona State and road games at Baylor and Kansas State. The other teams in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off are Boston College, College of Charleston, Connecticut, Dayton, George Mason, New Mexico and West Virginia. The Aggies' opponents there are still to be determined.

Gamecocks men's basketball announces 'very challenging' nonconference schedule

Gamecocks will host Baylor (Nov. 18), Oklahoma State (Dec. 6) and Clemson (Dec. 19) before Christmas. South Carolina played all three opponents on the road last winter.

South Carolina announced its 13-game nonconference schedule Tuesday. The schedule includes eight home games.

"Once again we have put together a very challenging schedule," USC coach Frank Martin said. "A schedule to prepare us to find success and be prepared in the SEC. We start with very tough home games, followed by a great tournament in Charleston, and a road game at Marshall, which is one of the most difficult facilities and places to play at. We're extremely excited about the challenges. Hopefully this schedule will harden our basketball team and prepare it for the unbelievable challenge of competing in the SEC."

MSU's coach inked a number of major conference opponents as well as NCAA Tournament teams for this upcoming season. The school released the non-conference slate of games for Ray's third season on Wednesday.

#Alabama preparing for 'extremely challenging' non-conference schedule, says Anthony Grant http://ow.ly/DbQTn

With non-conference games against No. 11 Witchita State, No. 14 Iowa State, UCLA and Xavier, Alabama's non-conference schedule will test the Tide early yet often.

The schedule will certainly will make things difficult for head coach Anthony Grant, who enters his sixth season in Tuscaloosa on the "hot seat" with a 99-71 mark.

"I think our non-conference schedule will be extremely challenging for us," Grant said Wednesday during SEC Tipoff 15 in North Carolina. "I think the schedule we've put together for the non-conference will hopefully get us prepared for the conference."

Alabama also faced a difficult non-conference schedule last year and finished 6-7 outside of the SEC with losses to Oklahoma, Duke, Drexel, South Florida, Wichita State, Xavier and UCLA. The Tide struggled in the SEC as well, finishing 7-11 in the conference and 13-19 overall.

"Last year we challenged ourselves," he said. "Unfortunately for us, we weren't able to win some of those games we had the opportunity to win. Had we been able to do that, it would have been a different outcome for us."
