They didn't need to lose anything on what was considered one of the worst defenses in the league last season.

We were not too far behind them.. So I'm taking it as positive news.

Ouch. The mlb was all sec freshman.  That would be like us losing Ellis this year at a thin mlb position.
And us losing Hodge at DT.

That's a hit...

I just hope our D can hold up their end.. I don't know if some of you are aware of what kind of firepower A&M recruited for their 2014 class...

Or one of the 2 or 3 QBs on the roster without much game time experience. They lost Matt Joeckel right?

From doing a little more research I'm showing the QB battle for them is between Allen & Kenny Hill.. I'll try and get some film on him ASAP

Experienced joeckel is gone.

If they have another freshman qb tear it up than Sumlins system is amazing.
Losing Matthews and caleb evans is very big.

Kenny Hill will be their guy. He is supposed to be the second coming of Christ.

I have been looking at the Texags board off and on since the beginning of the season last year, and as much as the Aggies fan like to brown nose them some Manziel, I think that even they too grew a little tired of his shennanigans.

To say that they brown nose Hill is a slight misstatement. Their lips are on that ish.

I've read Allen has the upper hand. Hill was suspended for the last week of spring practice.
Allen was rated high, got to campus early but is a true freshman.

Players get suspended all the time. They're high on Allen as well, but I think the fans seem to expect that Hill is going to get the job.

Now granted, I haven't read their queer board in a few weeks, but this is what I recall reading over the last few months.

Joeckel leaving really threw them a big surprise.

That was his gig.

I know players get suspended but last week of spring practice doesn't look good. That's crucial reps to be the #1 guy.

I'm hoping it doesn't happen, but if the starter for TAMU gets injured they will be in a similar situation like we were in last season.

Texas A&M 2014 has Arkansas 2012 written all over them (except they won't be preseason top ten). They're losing so much at a rapid pace. We freakin' have to beat these guys next year.

There are SOME exceptions but true FR QB's don't do well in the SEC.  P. Manning was 8-4 his first season.  That's the best I can remember for a true FR.

They'll be fine at LT. Cedric Ogbuehi should be another top 10 pick in next years class.

I think they've lost five or six 4* defensive players in this offseason so far. Their depth has taken a horrid hit.

three hog night

We deserve some breaks after the last 2 seasons, so I am very happy to see aTm and UGA both losing quality players.
Petrino left a mess and Bielema is trying to fill in the talent gaps.  Anderson finally has some talent to work with.  He needs more at select positions and that will come in the next recruiting class.
Posters that think they are Jim Rhome are ruining message boards.

I would love nothing more than the first game back in Dallas for the Southwest Classic to kick A&M's *ss

Sumlin says not all players' recent off-field mistakes judged fairly

QuoteAt some point during Texas A&M's season opener against South Carolina, it's bound to happen.

If Kenny Hill wins A&M's starting quarterback job, the SEC Network announcers probably will mention that Hill got arrested in March for public intoxication. They might add that former A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel also got arrested once on Northgate for fighting, having a fake driver's license and failing to identify himself.

And whether or not Hill starts at quarterback, you can bet the TV announcers will talk about the arrests of former A&M linebacker Darian Claiborne and defensive lineman Isaiah Golden for alleged armed robbery followed by their dismissals from the team.

A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin won't have a problem with those comments. They are the facts. He just hopes everyone understands the difference between each incident.

"We have a responsibility here, I do, to mentor and teach and get guys to do the right things," Sumlin said. "And everything gets lumped into one big bucket. That's tough.

"Everything else is not the same, [but] whatever you do is national news, good or bad. That's the hard part."

Sumlin said he and his coaching staff constantly talk to players about one person's actions hurting everybody else. He also said A&M has had "some egregious situations that we've gotten rid of."

The process is ongoing. Sumlin has hired a life skills specialist, brought in speakers to talk to the team about making right choices, and he's changed how the A&M coaching staff and support personnel handle disciplinary issues. He understands that the offseason issues hinder the program, and he wants his players to be successful on third down on the field and at 3 a.m. after the game, wherever they may be.

To help with the on-campus mentoring process, Sumlin has hired Mikado Hinson as director of player development from Houston.

"He's had a huge impact in the last month with guys, and I think that's going to continue," Sumlin said. "That doesn't happen over night. Guys have to trust and be able to talk to people."

A&M once had one of the nation's best skills teachers in Rick Rigsby. He was the program's character coach and chaplain for 14 years. Rigsby is now on his own as an international motivational speaker based in Allen.

"Sometimes, you don't know what you're missing until it's gone," said Sumlin, adding that Hinson is just one part of the football team's program to help players make the right choices...

A&M athletic director Eric Hyman: "I've got almost 700 [children] and I promise you right now one of them is getting in trouble or [about to]."

QuoteDiscipline has been a hot topic surrounding A&M's football team recently. Three football players left the program within the last month. Linebacker Darian Claiborne and defensive lineman Isaiah Golden were dismissed following their arrests for alleged armed robbery. Senior end Gavin Stansbury left to deal with personal issues. Stansbury, who has since transferred to Houston, had a misdemeanor assault charge in Harris County in March -- his attorney says it was a case of mistaken identify.

A&M has had other football players arrested since the end of last season, including freshman defensive back Victor Davis (shoplifting), sophomore quarterback Kenny Hill (public intoxication), senior safety Howard Matthews (speeding, failure to appear) and sophomore wide receiver Ed Pope (expired vehicle registration).

All of it has shed a bad light on the program, but Hyman said sans the high-profile incident involving Claiborne and Golden, the players involved in the various incidents aren't beyond redemption.

"You've got to put it in perspective," said Hyman, adding that he's talked about the recent problems with Anne Reber, the school's Dean of Student Life. "The challenges we have are no different than the student body. The challenge is ours are more visible."
