After six games, Kentucky sits at 5-1 with the toughest part of the schedule facing them. Can UK win another and become bowl eligible?

UK will have to win a road game. Those are LSU, Missouri, Tennessee or Louisville. Of these four teams, Louisville's defense gives me cause for concern...

The projection shows why it is good to be in the SEC-E when it comes to bowl assignments even if the locations and names change.

Alabama has the best opportunity to take advantage of the SEC's position with Mississippi State and Auburn coming to Tuscaloosa next month. While the Bulldogs are No. 1, their schedule also includes a road test at Mississippi on the final weekend of the regular season that could determine the fate of both teams in the Magnolia State.

A reminder: Some conferences may not fulfill their allotment.

USA-T has the SEC failing to fill their allotment in the Texas and Duck Commander bowls.  Have UAB taking the SEC slot in Shreveport.  They think Tennessee will get the Birmingham Bowl bid.

It is good to be in the SEC-E if it is all about gaining bowl assignments (e.g. Tennessee to the Liberty Bowl). Many of the SEC-W qualifiers will travel east rather than fill the Cotton and the aforementioned bowls.

those are some horrible picks, inorder for Bama & Ole Miss to go to the play off & UGA to make the Selection Commitee Bowl all three would have to beat Auburn.  That would give Auburn at least 4 losses ( not counting what happens vs A&M)

Yet he has Auburn in the Cap One & Texas A&M in the Outback. The two New Year's Days Bowls. A&M hasn't won a game since the beat us & play both Auburn & LSU.

Kentucky @ 5-3 isn't listed as a bowl team, but South Carolina @4-4 with a loss to Uk is playing Notre Dame?

He has a 3 loss USC team in a much better bowl game the 6-1 Utah who beat the Trojans last night.

KNOXVILLE – Since the inception of the Tennessee program in 1891, 14 teams have started the season with a 3-5 record — the latest being the current edition.

Of those, only one — the 1986 team, which won the Liberty Bowl — has picked up three more wins to qualify for the postseason...

The ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC conference champions are all guaranteed a spot in one of the big new bowls, if they're not in College Football Playoff, and the highest-ranked Group of 5 champion - American Athletic, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West or Sun Belt - by the new 13 member playoff committee will get into one of the big bowls, but doesn't have an automatic spot in the playoff. That means there will be six at-large spots available based on the committee's rankings...

Two SEC teams are trending in the wrong direction. After Saturday's loss to Tennessee, Steve Spurrier and his South Carolina team are in danger of missing the postseason for the first time since the 2007 season, and the Head Ball Coach walked out of his postgame press conference after a mere 56 seconds. It looks like the disappointing season is taking its toll on Spurrier who admits he has contemplated retirement after games like that. Kentucky is in a similar predicament. The Wildcats didn't have the same preseason hype, but a 5-1 start changed all that. Now they're sitting at 5-4 and might not win another game. "The wheels aren't falling off," UK coach Mark Stoops said Monday. "We barely had them on." That might be true, but missing out on a bowl game would be a major blow for this young team.

Heading to mid-November a total of 51 teams have clinched bowl eligibility, and 23 more schools could join them with one more win. With 38 bowl games and 51 teams ready for postseason play, that leaves 25 bowl spots still to fill. With a few weeks to play, the odds are still good all 25 vacancies will be accounted for, but the pressure is on for a handful of teams to finish the season strong.

For a quick rundown of which teams are currently eligible, which are close and which are not, here is a conference-by-conference breakdown of the entire bowl picture. Here is how each conference is broken down.

Four picks have LSU in the Belk Bowl in Charlotte, North Carolina. That might not sound like the most appealing long-distance trip to a lot of Tiger fans, but it might be if Bill Bender of The Sporting News, Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com and Brad Crawford of SaturdayDownSouth.com are correct. All three have the Tigers playing in the Belk Bowl opposite Notre Dame.

Phil Steele also has LSU in the Belk Bowl playing frequent Peach Bowl opponent Georgia Tech.

After teams are selected for the six CFP bowls and the Citrus Bowl makes its pick, the SEC will slot its remaining bowl-eligible teams into the bowls with which the conference has ties.

Saturday's matchup in Knoxville between Tennessee and Kentucky:

Playing for a bowl game seems crazy for a tradition-rich program like Tennessee, but the Volunteers haven't played in one since the 2010 Music City Bowl. They were on the verge last year, Jones' first year as coach, but four straight losses down the stretch put an end to that and pushed the goal back a year...

At 5-5, Kentucky is one step closer to that elusive sixth win and the opportunity to play in a bowl game, but the Wildcats are trending in the opposite direction. They have lost four straight games...

Kentucky's last bowl game also came after the 2010 season when the Wildcats lost to Pittsburgh in the BBVA Compass Bowl.

South Carolina 4-5 hosts South Alabama and then travels to Clemson after today's last SEC game against Florida.  Up 10-0 on the Gators in the second quarter.

Florida (5-3) host Eastern next week b/4 traveling to Tallahassee.  Their opener against Paul Petrino's team was cancelled.

Eastern may not pose as much trouble as GaSo did this time last year.

Trail SC 10-0 in the second quarter and may have packed it in for 2014.

Jerry Palm: Seminoles' strength of schedule took a hit this week with losses by the two ranked teams they had beaten previously. Clemson lost at Georgia Tech and Notre Dame was upset at home by Northwestern. It's possible that FSU will be without a win over a ranked opponent this week.

If Oregon is going to be ahead of Florida State at the end of the year, then certainly a 12-1, SEC champion Alabama would be as well. In fact, the Tide now projects to the top seed overall. [Same link will be updated next week and this info will be dated.]

One possible reservation on part of SEC of potential Texas A&M-Texas in Advocare Texas Bowl I've heard today is Aggies playing consecutive games in NRG Stadium (open 2015 season against Arizona State on Sept. 5 in Advocare Texas Kickoff). My guess is Aggies, whose largest former students base is Houston, would pack both regardless.
