Hocker becomes the third kicker drafted in school history and first since 1989. He also is the first kicker not selected by the Cardinals franchise.

Guess they forgot about Bill McClard being drafted by the Chargers in 1971 (3rd round), and Steve Cox by the Browns in 1981 (5th round) . . . lol

You mean the same SID that released a statement "from BP" when he was still knocked out in the hospital? The same statement that got reporters questioning if he was really alone on the bike and basically started the firestorm that got him caught?
Might have been on purpose though if BP really was a jerk. Hope they're happy now. I wouldn't trust them for nothing though.

Yep, we got some winners in the department.  Real winners.

I'll ask the dumb question.  Is the SID group old timers or hired by A.D. Long.  My guess is Long's hires.

Pat Summerall drafted in the 4th round of the 1952 draft (45th overall).

Sunshine Rick will set them straight...  ;)

According to NFL.com, Steve Cox is listed as a punter so we didn't add him.  Kicker = Placekicker.  Bill McClard is listed in the story on Hocker on the web site.

Good info.   Just more evidence that the place is a business now and not in touch with everyday people.

Did they edit the article to add Bill McClard, or did you just not see that he was listed right under Steve Little?

I will answer for him.
They edited the article.
I looked at the original article when he posted the link and McClard was not on that list.

So now it was the SID's fault?

I'll make a prediction: If BCG were to get the Tennessee job, Calipari will be fired from UK within 2 years because from the 2013-2014 season on, Tennessee will own the SEC East until BCG moves on or retires.

According to NFL.com, Steve Cox is listed as a punter so we didn't add him.  Kicker = Placekicker.  Bill McClard is listed in the story on Hocker on the web site.

They edited the story and added McClard after I posted a similar thread on the HI site yesterday, and Clay Henry notified them about it.  That per Clay himself.

As for the Cox argument, this is simply more silliness from these guys.  Cox, who did punt consistently during his career, also consistently was a kickoff man, AND a "long distance" FG man.  In fact, he recorded a 60 yard FG in the NFL.  And, in the Redskins' Super Bowl that he played in, he kicked off more than he punted.

And, by the way, a "kicker" is either a punter, a place kicker or a kickoff man.  Cox was all 3.  Cox was a "kicker".

Within the narrow context of this discussion, Summerall would not be included because he was not drafted as a "kicker".  The era of being a kicking specialist did not begin until the later 60's/early 70's.  Until then, kickers were position players who also had a "side skill" of kicking.  Hall of Famer "Lou the Toe Groza" was a Def. lineman, as was Arkansas' own Billy Ray Smith Sr. (played with Unitas on the Baltimore Colts in the mid-60's).

Pat came into the league as a tight end who also kicked.  By the end of his career, he played less end and more kicker.  But he was not drafted as a "kicker".

So do you think they should get a pass for not having their information correct?
How hard would it have been for them to fact check their story before putting it out there?
I mean, that is the job they're getting paid to do.

No we are their consumers.
And just like any consumer - can voice displeasure when the product put forth doesn't meet certain standards.

I thought to be a consumer, you had to PAY for the goods or service.

Anyway, I am sorry, I just do not see a press release about how many kickers from the school have been drafted, as something to get all worked up about.

It's not anything to get all worked up over. But geezzzzzz - when folks read an article you like to think that the information you're reading is factually correct. One of the main roles of that department is to keep historical data on each sports program.
I can't stand articles that have erroneous information in them, no matter who puts them out. It's just sloppy work.

I think, personally, that it has become more difficult to please consumers since "certain standards" are of personal preference for the most part. Also, in an ADHD/Gotta Have It Now/140 characters or less society we are living in, the margins for error are becoming slimmer because someone is going to throw light on something within seconds of posting. Does it excuse it? No, but he who has not screwed up before can be first in line to throw the stones.

Well, our SID office has been a joke for decades, so I'll guess the former.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the SID's job to distribute this information accurately?  Or "direct" others on how to do it accurately?  If not, then what does he do?

So what you're saying is that taxpayers have no right to complain how their money is used?  If no one complains, then where's the motive to do better?  It's funny how this excuse never comes up when people complain about Long or Bielema.

I don't think anyone is getting all worked up about it.  It's just that we see this happen so often that it's become a bit of a joke over the years.  Also, I would think a good SID is important for a good image, which we've sorely lacked for years.
