@NWARobbie: "Mike Anderson said strength coach David Deets resigned last week to go into private business. So Arkansas looking for new strength coach."

Wow. Huge loss. I wish him much success in his endeavors.

I am always ready for Hog Ball!

The football season has no bearing on my excitement for basketball season to begin.

I know I'm in the minority, but I rank Hog basketball above Hog football every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Has a lot to do with the era in which I grew up, but for me personally there is just nothing better than watching the Hogs run up and down the court!
Woo Pig Sooiee!  Can't wait for the season to tip off.  I'm hoping for a much more competitive team this season.

The_Iceman

I wonder what direction Mike will go with... Lean/endurance muscle specialists or get someone who focuses on more overall strength/size?

If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

More conditioning but I guess you haven't looked at Qualls and Williams pics from HS to this last year.  MAJOR bulk up.

"I can't be cliché and say 'Call the Hogs,' but I think I have to.  That's just something that sets our university apart.  When you're out on the field and everyone in the stadium stands up, it's amazing.  Even when we're at a football or basketball game, just to see that many people around you doing the same thing for you when you're on the field or for the other guys who are playing, it's pretty awesome."

Anybody have any thoughts on who we may be looking at?

Iceman, how long do you think it will be before the guy that made the thread about we need to fire our S&C coach comes on here and say how much trouble we are in and we're going to take a step back in development now, and I'm sure the 1 or 2 guys that supported him will do the same.

I think some people confuse the ability of a strength and conditioning coach with genetics.

There are some fans that expect a strength and conditioning coach to turn kids into Patric Young. That's not going to happen. If you want a player like Patric Young, you need to sign a player like Patric Young. You can't create that kind of bulk/size. It's genetic. But you can add good weight and strength to players, and that has happened under Deets. The problem (if you want to call it that) is that we just don't generally recruit big, strong, physical players. That's not on the strength and conditioning coach. As Iceman showed above, there's a noticeable difference in Portis. But Portis is a thin guy. Always will be. But he'll also continue to get stronger. Power is not and never will be his game, though.

I think a good S&C coach can turn Trey Thompson into a force inside. He's got the body to be a monster. Turn that baby fat into muscle and he'll contribute.

Absolutely.

Trey isn't like most players Anderson recruits. He has the frame and potential for a body like some fans want to see.

^^This. But you recruit those guys, they aren't made by taking skinny guys and making them into that. This whole thing about the strength and conditioning is being overplayed. The failure has come on the recruiting trail, not in the weight room.

Hey guess what, no coach is going to let his ship sink if there is something he can do about it.

Per usual, Hogville shows its 43% HS graduation rate in threads like this.

Love how some of you just think Mike is so loyal he would rather lose and keep his guys than make changes and win. Its legitimately funny.

This is a phrase losers love to throw around to basically say, "Hey, he might be an awful coach... but he has MORALS".

Typical Arkansas. How about this, lets just win.

After spending 5 years at Missouri and helping Mike build a winning program, Deets came to Arkansas and spent 3 years here, helping improve the program exponentially each year.

Mike is not in desperation mode frantically pushing out and experimenting with expendable staff members. He doesn't need to while he has the program trending upwards. There's no sinking ship. He sticks with guys that he knows and that are familiar with his system.

Look, I applaud you for trying to spit "Mike made a good move" through those hardened teeth, but there are more legitimate things you could applaud him for with the added benefit of not making yourself look like a 'tard.

As per Hogville usual, the 57% non-graduates are showing. Now we simply have to wait for his browser plugin to translate this to "AhoahspfILOVEMIKEANDERSONlkjasdf"

I think it was 'exponentially' that he was questioning.  No doubt we have improved each year but not exponentially.  Technically that would winning say 2 games, then 4, then 8, then 16, then 32...

Or, you could look at it as going from 9th, to 7th, to 5th in the SEC. At this rate, I expect Mike to be 3rd in the SEC next year.
