Bielema just mentioned this will be his new title.

Professor Psychosis

Also said he'd make a decision on DC in the next 7 days.

The Boar War

And there it is.  Shannon stays on staff and gets a raise without having to be held directly responsible for the defense.

hokettHOG

wonder if he will still coach linebackers??

So he basically will have a superior title to the DC. It will be nice to have 2 solid defensive coaches like Shannon and Robb Smith on staff.

trashcan maN

At least this takes some of the air out of the Robb Smith rumors.

How so?

Pretty much confirms it to me.

The only down time my legs see is when seated in 1st Class.

Makes sense in so many ways.  Sounds well thought out by Bielema and Shannon.
Quote from: MaconBacon on March 22, 2018, 10:30:04 amWe had a good run in the 90's and one NC and now the whole state still laments that we are a top seed program and have kids standing in line to come to good ole Arkansas.  We're just a flash in the pan boys.

hogfan1003

If it is Smith, why not announce it with the Shannon announcement?

Just happy to keep Randy in the fold! :razorback:

Petrino left a mess and Bielema is trying to fill in the talent gaps.  Anderson finally has some talent to work with.  He needs more at select positions and that will come in the next recruiting class.

what title is that?  Seriously what does it mean.  Are there any other examples in the SEC?

So is the Smith guy the DC or not?

If he is, Bielema ain't saying anything today.

This is getting kind of ridiculous.  How long has it been since we had a DC?

Can we organize a Twitter bomb of Barry Odom?

From my experience most of these titles are just to give them more money.

Has the season or Spring practice started?  Why are you and others so anxious about this?

Google associate head coach.  It has been common for a long time in college sports.

Absolutely nothing...nothing is ridiculous about the absence of a DC on national signing day.

Speaks volumes in my mind.  He keeps a list of coaches 3 deep for every position?  His choice was either coaching in a bowl game or playoff game?  We will know by the second week of January?  Previous DC took a pay cut to leave?

Well, maybe because the man who keeps 3 names of assistant coaches at each position, just in case he loses an assistant is STILL saying in the next 7 days.

Oh, and though I know that it doesn't matter, I'd prefer Odom to Smith.

Those seem to be pretty much the facts...and..apparently Shannon doesn't want it.

maybe he was going to announce Robb Smith today but he heard Butch Davis was interested via Bo's interview yesterday...  lol

This still allows Shannon to go out and recruit more than if he was a DC.

Because what he says, and what he has are the exact same thing. I'd go out on a limb and say he's already "hired" Smith. He's just waiting a few more days to announce it.
