Kickers - why no love shown in stars

Kickers can be one of the bigger point scorers a team can have.  How do we have the # 3-4 Kicker and he's a 3 Star?  Pretty sure Alabama would have liked a better FG kicker this past year. 

Surely they're rated different from other positions?

Guess I'm just curious why a top 5 kicker in the country wouldn't be a 4-5 star?  Any other position would be.

Ever hear of Alex Tejada?

Believe it or not, he was considered about on par with Hedlund coming out of HS.

Hocker was completely unheralded. Who would you rather have?

Prob just hard to predict how kicking in front of 700 will translate into kicking in front of 100,000.   Kickers are very important, but it's a position that's as much mental as physical.

Do most still kick FG's off the block in High School?  Once told by a guy who taught kickers that's why he'd have a hard time offering a scholly to one, because going from a block to the ground was very challenging for some.

Seems like if I'm a great kicker and want to kick in college I'd get rid of the block early on.....

Its just been in the last few years that they were even 3*.  Used to pretty much every kicker was a 2*.

The same reason that All Pro specialist are not in the HOF.  Ray Guy, who made the punter position into a weapon, is the first punter ever to be elected to the HOF.  Specialist just aren't respected for their contribution since it is so limited to only a couple of plays per game.  I for one think they are a critical part of any team.

When they screw up, it's usually devastating, just ask Boise State and Alabama.
