So, I was out messing around this morning and trying to shoot a squirrel or two.  Apparently, the squirrel rut is in full effect and while squirrels were out in big numbers, shots were hard to come by because they were literally chasing each other around like monkeys on meth.

So, anyway, I was watching two at the very top of a 80 foot pine or so and waiting for a shot.  Well, in all my years hunting, while I have seen many squirrel chases during the rut, I had never actually seen two consummate the act...so to speak.  So, these two were in the top of the tree whirling around in a fur ball like something from an old Looney Tunes cartoon, when, suddenly they stop and I see that they are actually doing the act.  Well, I had already kind of decided that I didn't care too much about killing any squirrels so I just sat there and watched for a few seconds.  And a few seconds is all it took.  When he finished, she kind of whirled on him and snapped at him and...he lost his grip.  And he fell.  And since he was at the top of an 80 foot pine and there were no limbs, he fell a long way.  He fell like he was shot and hit the ground with a solid WHUMP on his back.

He was out cold and I watched him for a few minutes and he didn't move.  I thought to myself, "Well, he literally fricked himself to death" and was walking over to pick him up when he suddenly revived, jumped up on the tree, and headed up for another round.

I've seen them jump out of trees before but I have never seen one fall like that.  It was pretty funny.

There would be worse ways to go, than falling out of a tree after acrobatic rutting.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Well, maybe he learned a lesson from that fall.  He needs to catch those females while they are on the ground.....those 80ft. falls are going to shorten his love life, & give him back trouble....

I have lots of squirrels around my house.  On my street I have 1 tree on one side of the street and 1 on the other that the squirrels love jumping from tree to tree.  Well one day one missed the branch and landed on his belly, you could here the thud.  Hopped up and run up the tree, It was a good 20 ft fall.
