Except it was in Korea. I killed a deer on the airfield today. One shot with buckshot from a 12 gauge. The deer here are called Vampire Deer. They grow fangs and are very tiny. This deer was really young and barely had its fangs coming. I am excited about it though.

AirForceHog

It was a baby but there are not regulations here. Especially on the runway on an air force base. I'll have a pic later.

I've seen pictures of those deer.  Very strange looking.  How do they taste?

Don't know yet. I will be cooking it up this weekend.

As promised.

Well they grow in comparison with the local people. Koreans aren't very big either.

Korean BBQ?

Looks like one shot got his ear and another got the fangs.

Cool story bro, seriously.

Nice kill, and thanks for your service.

Back strap is back strap.

I kept the backstrap. Not much to it but I figure wrapped in bacon and grilled will suffice nicely.

Awesome.  Keep those things away from the runway, whatever you do!  There's nothing worse than being on takeoff roll or a touch and go and seeing a coyote or deer dart across the runway through your NVGs.

Good little deer. In Eastern Ark we call them Fawns. LOL  Thanks for your service and good hunting.

clutch

That's pretty cool. So do you judge them by the size or their fangs or something? Anything that indicates doe or buck other than their undercarriage?

AirForceHog

Judge by fangs. Both male and female grow the fangs. So the undercarriage is the only way to tell gender.

How much did it weigh after you skinned it out?  I would guess less than 50 pounds of meat.

You should definitely get that thing mounted.

I just might. Not many have ever shot a vampire deer.

Yeah if I saw that thing out in the woods I'd shoot it (no matter the season).

Better use some silver bullets if you are gonna shoot em....

Looks like that's one of those Transylvania Deer.....probably came out of some laboratory....heard they are almost never seen in daylight....

I bet there's less than 10lbs of usable meat on that bad boy.
consider if you kill a buck, let's say it weighs 160 lbs. after field dressing. You're probably going to get max 70lbs. of actual meat off of it.

AirForceHog

There was only about 5-10 pounds of usable meat. It's in the freezer. Waiting till next weekend to grill it up.

Are you in Osan or kunsan?  I remember seeing these deer in Kunsan back in 97.

LOL Deer is deer but dang gum I killed a pair of swamp rabbits that yeilded more meat.   Good head shot and those thing look scary.  As another said I would shoot that as soon as I saw it in the woods.
