People shoot them with .223's all the time. Depends on where you hit them & how big a pig you are talking about.  Head, behind ear, right in the eye.....yeah, that's enough of a round.  Hitting a big boar hog anywhere else with a .223.....might require multiple hits & might want to be done from an elevated stand or strong tree limb.  Will a .223 kill a hog? you bet.....but sometimes not as quick & easy as you might wish.  That's why you might want to be out of reach.  Big hogs can be tough to kill quickly.

If available, bigger caliber would usually be a better choice.

I've killed big one (314lbs) with a 22LR placed behind the ear.

There's a video of an idiot shooting an 804lb hog seven times with a 50 cal on youtube.

It's all about shot placement.
I ain't saying you babysitting, but my kids are all over your couch.

This is true.  223 can kill anything, but more knockdown power makes up for poorly placed shots.

It all depends upon your situation.  In a trap a 22 will do, down on the ground I want a 30/30 or 45-70.  In a good stand any AR platform will do.
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.

30/30 right in the ear hole worked on a big one for me.

.223 will do the trick, but like someone else said---larger caliber has more knockdown.  I don't like to track like I used too.
