ICYMI, this week's Film Session examines how Marshall Henderson is helping Ole Miss' developing bigs. http://blogs.clarionledger.com/um/2014/01/28/film-session-defending-marshall-leaves-options/

Series of stills from the State game show how Henderson draws the bigs out to his favorite shooting spots leaving the Ole Miss bigs open for easy buckets.

In prep for Tuesday night’s UK-Ole Miss tilt, ESPN’s Andy Katz writes on how Ole Miss’ Marshall Henderson has cleaned up his act.

In the piece, the Rebel without a shooting conscience says he is looking forward to playing at Rupp Arena, but he  claims Cats-Rebels will be just another game.

“I’m excited about this, but it won’t be anything different,” Henderson said of the date with Kentucky (7 p.m. ET, ESPNU), a team, that like Ole Miss, stands at 6-2 and trails Florida (8-0 in the SEC). “It’s a big-time place, big-time crowd and big-time team. We’re tied for second place. That’s what this game is about Tuesday.”

Quote
Marshall Henderson wasn’t quite as annoying as he has been in past games, but he’s still one of the best villains in the league. Henderson was 6-18 from the field for 16 points...

Marshall was still Marshall, egging the crowd on and talking smack throughout.  After the game, Mike Pratt asked Willie Cauley-Stein what it was like to go up against Marshall, prompting the line of the night in my opinion: ”I have a mouthpiece in, I can’t really say much, you know what I’m saying?” Willie joked, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Right after falling back NBA three that put Ole Miss up 28-23 in the first half.

Kids were thrilled to meet Henderson. He stuck around 15 min, visited with one in wheelchair. No PR people within sight.

Sick and tired, Georgia prepares to welcome Marshall Henderson and Ole Miss, with third place on the line.
http://www.macon.com/2014/02/14/2938236/sick-and-tired-bulldogs-welcome.html

Quote
Bulldogs have been worried about stomach bugs, catching plane rides home and then worrying more about the stomach bug.

Much of the team’s practice likely will center on stopping Henderson. The senior guard is the SEC’s third-leading scorer, at 19.3 points per game, and easily leads the conference with 93 made 3-pointers.

Henderson is also known for his antics, which the Bulldogs are well aware of from last year’s visit to Oxford. Ole Miss beat Georgia in overtime, but the Bulldogs were up three with less than three minutes left when Gaines, being trapped near midcourt by Henderson, was ruled to have elbowed Henderson in the face. Officials didn’t initially call it, but after the reviewing it, they decided Gaines had hit Henderson, even though video of the play didn’t appear conclusive.

It was a technical, and Henderson made both free throws to make it a one-point game. Georgia still came back and nearly won the game in regulation... [moral victory?]

Final: Georgia 61, Ole Miss 60, in a pretty thrilling game in front of a good crowd. Bulldogs now alone in third place in SEC.

"Laettner finish" pass attempt to Henderson went over his head at :1.5.  Andy Kennedy didn't have the pull to get time back on the clock like Kevin Stallings.

After a shaky first half, No. 2 Florida found a way to shut down Ole Miss senior guard Marshall Henderson and outdistance the Rebels.

Senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin had 18 points and seven assists, lifting the No. 2 Gators (25-2, 14-0 SEC) to a 75-71 win over Ole Miss.

Henderson scored all 22 of his points in the first half, but was held scoreless in the second half, going 0 for 6 from the field in the final 20 minutes for the Rebels (16-11, 7-7).

The quote provided by Ole Miss from Marshall Henderson about his record is dead-on perfect. http://blogs.clarionledger.com/um/2014/02/26/marshall-henderson-sets-sec-record-with-made-3/

Quote
OXFORD — Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson made the first shot he took Wednesday, a 3-pointer two minutes into the Rebels’ 79-67 win against Alabama.

And, just like that, Henderson had a new SEC record for consecutive games with a made 3-pointer. The streak is now at 61 games, one more than Arkansas’ Pat Bradley.

“It is an honor to break the record, but when you shoot as many 3s as I do, records are bound to fall,” Henderson said.

It was not a great night overall for Henderson. He was 4-of-13 from the floor, 2-of-8 from 3-point range and finished with 13 points. All of those points came in the first half:

Breaks record set by the Hogville mod.

Did TV Teddy leave Marshall Henderson hanging?

Early in the 110-80 loss to Arkansas, Ole Miss star Marshall Henderson was called for a foul by referee Ted Valentine.

What happened next is interesting: Valentine (more commonly known as “TV Teddy” for the way he often plays to the camera) did not help Henderson off the court.

http://blogs.clarionledger.com/um/2014/03/06/did-tv-teddy-leave-marshall-henderson-hanging  (gif courtesy of Deadspin via this link)

TV Teddy got in Mick Cronin's face last Saturday.

Cronin noted that his father, also a coach, would have a figurative knock-down drag-out with a ref, another would come between them, and they would all go out for beers after the game.

Henderson's Ole Miss career ends in the SEC-T.

Rebels were left out of the 32-team National Invitational Tournament (NIT) field Sunday, and are not expected to be interested in pursuing an invite to the third-rate College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

Ole Miss, whose loss to Georgia in the SEC tournament quarterfinals sealed their postseason fate, finish the 2013-14 season 19-14 overall and 9-9 in the SEC. The Rebels were apparently not seriously considered for the NIT.

It’s an end to a disappointing season for Ole Miss, which won the SEC tournament on Selection Sunday a year ago and then upset fifth-seeded Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Coach Andy Kennedy said prior to the end of the regular season that he hoped that experience would be a springboard into this season, and the kind of breakthrough he had been pursuing for his entire tenure.

Instead this is just the second time in eight seasons Ole Miss has failed to advance to the posseason under Kennedy. The previous season was 2008-09, when Ole Miss finished 16-5 bu suffered season-ending injuries to Chris Warren, Trevor Gaskins and Eniel Polynice.

There were no such injuries this season, just a team that failed to realize some opportunities and lost six of its last eight regular season game. That slide caused Ole Miss to fall from a tie for second place to a tie for sixth.

A side effect of Ole Miss being left out of the NIT is that Marshall Henderson will never play another game in an Ole Miss uniform. The star guard made a 3-pointer in all 66 games he played in, an SEC record, and finished his two-year career with 1,293 points. That’s 17th alltime at Ole Miss, and only John Stroud and Gerald Glass scored more points in two seasons at the school.

In Henderson’s last game as a Rebel he had his worst night, making 5-of-21 shots and 2-of-16 3-pointers for 19 points. He had a shot to give Ole Miss the lead in the final five seconds, but it hit the side of the rim.

“To go out like that, it’s just crushing in my heart — because I wanted it so bad for everyone,“ Hender“son said after the game. “Coach talked about effort. Effort is good, but I’ll take all of this. All of the blame for that. This one hurts.”

Andy Kennedy fielding questions about Marshall Henderson, who no longer plays for him.

Kennedy: "My best player (Jarvis Summers) is back on my team."

Breaking: Marshall Henderson is now playing in Qatar, Andy Kennedy said. Do they have White Girl Wednesday there?

It wouldn't surprise me to pick up tomorrow's paper and find out that Marshall Henderson has been made a sheik or that he's now the leader of ISIS.  lol

In case you guys never saw the Marshall Henderson/Auburn gif, @jeffborzello broke it down.

Night Court: On wild day of hoops, one GIF steals the show

Quote
What was everyone talking about at the end of the day? The GIF above, of course.

It's of Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson taunting the Auburn student section, shortly after hitting two game-winning free throws in the final seconds. Watch it about 30 times, then you can truly dive into the analysis. Here are several observations, cycling through all the MVPs of the GIF:

Obviously, we kick things off with the older gentleman standing up in defiance right in front of Henderson. Not sure what he said to Henderson, but that guy wasn't having anymore of the tomfoolery.
The guy in the white polo is big-time, just smiling the entire time. He loves it.
Jerry Garcia-looking guy on press row. He's clapping, smiling, really enjoying the scene.
The crew of double-middle finger guys. They're forever best friends.
The guy who rips his hat off. He was so heated he just couldn't take it anymore.
Now we get to the sleepers: To kick things off, check out my man next to Auburn pajamas girl. He's got the creepy sideways grin, like he digs Marshall Henderson's attitude, but can't have his friends find out.
Speaking of Auburn pajamas girl, she looks out of place. And is also terrified by the flying object to her left.
What is that flying object? No one really knows. Could be a Fathead, could be a cardboard cutout, could be an umbrella. But the blonde girl reacts like it's a head. A real one...

My favorite has always the dude that comes sliding in from the left, double-guns blazing. Although, white polo makes a strong case.

Super 16 for The Basketball Tournament, a $2 million winner-take-all nationwide competition, will be Thursday and Friday at Philadelphia University, with four quarterfinal matchups on Saturday.

There are eight teams composed of college basketball alumni remaining and three teams that were in last year's semifinals, including defending champions Overseas Elite.

The semifinals will be played at Fordham University, and the championship game, with $2 million on the line, will be Aug. 2 at 9 p.m. Both the semifinals and final will be on ESPN.

No. 5 TMD vs. No. 8 Trained to Go, Thursday (2 p.m. on ESPN2)

Former Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson is the star attraction of TMD because of his personality, but this team has been led by a pair of other guards, Christopher Warren and B.J. Young. Warren also played at Ole Miss while Young starred at Arkansas.
