Hopefully this is the last week for this.

Remember that the up and down is relative, not an ordered list. Also keep in mind that coordinators, NFL coaches, and "retired" coaches are not on this list.

Stock UP

Art Briles, Baylor. The Bears knocked off Texas Tech 52-45 to get to a bowl for the third straight season, an impressive feat for a traditional doormat. Briles' stock isn't up as much for his on-field performance as for his name being tied here by various sources, rumor or not. His offense is roughly the same as Gundy's, and similar to Sumlin's, and his defenses aren't any worse than Sumlin's Houston defenses.

James Franklin, Vanderbilt. Name also been connected to our job, and Vandy ripped Wake Forest 55-21 to move to 8-4, an absolutely astounding feat for Vanderbilt. Vandy doesn't have any impressive wins, but you can't ignore the upgrade Franklin has put into this traditional doormat. Worth mentioning that Spurrier was hired at Florida after two decent seasons at Duke....

Mike MacIntyre, San Jose State. A bunch of folks will have to say no before MacIntyre is considered, but the former Cowboys assistant has SJSU 10-2 after a 52-43 win over Sonny Dykes and LaTech. SJSU picked Colby Cameron off 3 times, including twice in the fourth quarter to seal the win. SJSU has gone from 1-12 to 5-7 to 10-2 in three seasons under MacIntyre, who is a fantastic defensive coach.

Darrell Hazell, Kent State. Like MacIntyre, he'll hardly be considered, but Kent State is 11-1 and will play in their first ever MAC title game. Hazell has gone 5-7 and 11-1 in two seasons, and KSU plays good offense and defense. A former WR coach under Tressel, Hazell coached with Haynes and Johnson for years so there is a connection.

Jim Mora, UCLA. Yes the lost, but his name has come up as well, though I'm unsure of the validity of these rumors. Excellent coach took a 6-7 team, put in a redshirt freshman QB, and went 9-3, winning the Pac-12 South outright. Southern native may want to return?

Gary Patterson, TCU. Any coach who beats Texas is worth a thumbs up, if not a coaching offer... TCU is 7-4 on the year despite a young defense and a backup QB.

Stock UNCHANGED

Gus Malzahn, Arkansas State. Didn't play this week, will face Middle Tennessee for the outright Sun Belt title next week.

Chris Petersen, Boise State. Didn't play this week, will face Nevada next week. BSU is 9-2 on the year but needs a San Diego State loss to win the MWC.

Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State. Lost a close one to Oklahoma, but OSU was still a good team at 8-4 despite losing Weeden and Blackmon to the NFL. Perhaps losing to Oklahoma makes Gundy realize he's reached his ceiling at OSU?

Stock IN FREEFALL

Tommy Tuberville, Texas Tech. Hopefully his name quits coming up. Baylor took down Tech 52-45 in OT for the Red Raiders' 4th loss in 5 games to end the season (lost 5 of last 7 overall). He's too old to provide long-term consistency, potentially washed-out, and doesn't have the recent resume to back any consideration of him.

Dan Mullen, Mississippi State. Probably already out of consideration, but getting blasted by Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl sends State to 4 losses in the final 5, with the only win coming against...well, you know.

So you want Holgerson? No thanks.

+1

While it means nothing to the actual search, it is informative, and a good read.  You seem to be on top of things.

Lake City Hog

Please do not even mention Art Briles. If the Tech Qb hadn't hit his own O'Lineman in the head with a pass that game would still be going on. The SEC would eat that guy alive.

Art Briles would be a massive mistake. Take RG3 out of the equation and no one would even be mentioning this guy!!!!!!

Of the list, my pick is James Franklin.

Another coach who can't get it done. No thanks

Only post in this forum I read week to week.  Thanks.
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

There is nothing wrong with the Hogs, that cannot be cured by what is right with the Hogs!

Great list, just have one correction. Mora was born and raised in Southern California and then spent the rest of his youth between Colorado and Seattle when his dad was with UW and the Seahawks, graduating from high school in Seattle and walking on at Washington.  He's not a southern native.
