ouch. Truly a good guy, and a good ambassador for baseball.

As much as I despise the Yankees (Red Sox are my team) - I hated to see this happen to Jeter. He's the only Yankee I've ever truly liked. What a great ballplayer and team leader he is.
Too bad it couldn't have happened to that jackass ARod.
Inside every "older" person is a younger person wondering what the hell happened?

I saw the replay of it on ESPN. The reporter said that his one request was NOT to be carried off the field, but he just couldn't put weight on it. I'm not a Yankee fan, but I do respect the team and especially Jeter. Sad turn of events. The Baseball Tonight guys said it just won't seem like the post-season without him. We all get tired of their Yankee hyperbole, but that statement is true.

Jeter is most certainly not what I would deem a "good guy" but the guy has been one of the most consistent and durable players while putting up good numbers that you'll ever see.

I'm glad to see you a hater on all successful franchises.  sucks to be a Braves fan

Depending on any additional damage, does anyone think this will hasten his retirement?

At one point, 4,000 hits didn't seem outside the realm of possibility.   He's at 3,304 now  and another 211 hit season would put him at 5th all time, with 3,515 hits.

I think he sticks around, but isn't quite the same guy he was this year-- falling back to the 150-175 hit type guy, maybe for another two years, at worst putting him in spitting distance of Stan Musial for 4th on the all-time hit list.

Sucks to be ignorant.

I've met the guy, more than once.  I'll repeat, he isn't what I'd consider "a good guy."

Nothing but respect for what he's done on the field.

Sorry that I'm not familiar with your personal anectdotal stories.  My fault for not knowing your personal history with MLB players.  All I have seen in this forum is a lot of negative comments about certain players and clubs from you.  That is all I have to use to judge your comments about Jeter.  That being said, I can't stand the Yankees.  It started in the late 70s watching them play the Dodgers in the World Series. Enlighten us about his behavior.

HOG FAN 4 LIFE

Jeter is the biggest drama queen in sports. If they win he'll figure out a way to milk this injury.

Bsking, how do you know him?  What is your baseball background if you don't mind me asking?

I don't "know him".  I met in him in 2009 at Minor League pre-winter meetings.  I also got to "hang out" with him for a while during a Trenton game when he was there on rehab.  The guy I was traveling with has a long history with him so I got to be around him for about half a day.

I work in MLB scouting.

Oh cool. That's gotta be a fun job. Though I've never met one, I figure the star athletes out there that are actually good guys is few and far between.

Not necessarily.  I have met some great and humble guys.  In fact, the Minor League POY this year is one of the nicest guys you'll find.

Jeter did a good job for the Rangers but I just don't like the Yankees.
If the South should lose, it means that the history of the heroic struggle will be written by the enemy, that our youth will be trained by Northern school teachers, will be impressed by all of the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors and our maimed veterans as fit subjects for derision.
