Former Texas A&M standout running back Darren Lewis is going to prison after pleading guilty to multiple armed robberies, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Lewis, 45, is the Aggies' all-time leading rusher with 5,012 yards, and he led the squad in rushing for three straight seasons from 1988-90. According to the article, "The former footballer (has) lost everything to cocaine – his pro career, his house, his marriage ..."

Lewis played for both Jackie Sherrill and R.C. Slocum...

Very sad. He was a good one even if he was an aggie.

A former USC football player is charged with second-degree assault and battery after police say he punched a Bluffton man in the face in Charleston earlier this week, sending the man to the hospital with a fractured skull.

James Hutton, 27, of Greenville, was arrested Friday night and released Saturday afternoon from the Charleston County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. He is accused of punching 26-year-old Billy Schilling, who was on a date with his wife on Upper King Street in Charleston just after midnight last Sunday.

Schilling was knocked unconscious by Hutton's alleged blow to the face, hitting his head on the sidewalk, according to a police incident report.

Schilling, a personal trainer, boat captain and liquor distributor, could face months of recovery. The couple has a 7-month-old son.

The attack happened about a block from a similar incident that killed a man earlier this year, in Charleston's downtown entertainment district.

From the prevalence of drugs, sex and parties to agents offering players money under the table, Fuller plans to expose the day-to-day temptations of the modern college athlete. He hopes the book will be funny, outrageous and controversial.

Fuller grew up in California and suffered the loss of his father while playing at Vanderbilt. Although he talked with them, he said he did not accept money from agents.

"I knew that if I took that money or anything of that sort, that would mean that my career would be in jeopardy," Fuller said.

Fuller graduated from Vanderbilt in May and is planning to pursue a professional basketball career overseas.

The rest of his life is in transition too. He just got transferred from the Cincinnati suburbs to Lexington, Kentucky, for his regular job, selling office technology equipment for a company called Prosource. He has an apartment in the same complex he lived in when he was a senior at UK. It's full of unopened boxes. His pots and pans are in there somewhere. He says he'll start cooking sometime soon. In the meantime, the China Hut left a menu on his welcome mat.

"Jared is a great kid," says Hal Mumme, his former coach at Kentucky. "A tremendous guy," says Ryan Lemond, his occasional radio co-host on the Kentucky Sports Radio network. "I want people to know how generous he is," says his mom, Janet Hermes. "He's the sweetest guy in the whole wide world," says his ex-wife, Tamara, mother of their two kids.

So many people love Jared Lorenzen, and so many people worry about him. His weight throws a shadow over everything else in his life, the same way it does in mine. We see the world as an obstacle course. We've broken countless plastic chairs. We've squeezed through thickets of tables at restaurants, trying to keep our rear ends out of people's faces. The Redskins spent a seventh-round pick on Arkansas place kicker Zach Hocker this spring, hoping to bring in a youngster with a strong leg who would challenge incumbent Kai Forbath.

Their competition lasted all preseason, with the rookie shining initially, hitting a pair of field goals and making a special-teams tackle during the opener against New England, while Forbath was short on his lone attempt from 46 yards.

But Saturday morning, roughly eight hours before the NFL's deadline for final roster cuts, it was Hocker who was released.

It all came down to Thursday's preseason finale at Tampa Bay, in which Hocker missed his lone field-goal attempt, from 39 yards, wide right. Forbath delivered from 45 yards to open the scoring.

Forbath, a third-year veteran, finished the preseason 4 for 5 on field goals and made all of his point-after attempts and show improved distance on his kickoffs.
Hocker was 2 for 3 on field goals.

Gruden voiced satisfaction with both heading into Thursday preseason finale, saying he felt the Redskins would do well with either. After Hocker's miss, the coach conceded the rookie "missed a great opportunity."

Chapman allegedly took the items to a local pawn shop and sold them for cash, according to Sgt. Mark Clark, a Scottsdale police spokesman.

Clark said store managers alerted police to the thefts in August and that multiple employees recognized the thief as Chapman "based on his previous celebrity status as an NBA basketball player."

A former Phoenix Suns player accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from an Apple store in Scottsdale, Ariz., was released from jail Saturday afternoon.

Rex Chapman, a former a guard for the Suns, was arrested Friday on accusations he shoplifted more than $14,000 of goods.

Scottsdale police say Chapman stole the items from the Apple Store at the Scottsdale Quarter on seven separate occasions over the span of several weeks. According to public records, Chapman owns or rents a residence in the neighboring development of Kierland Commons.

Chapman was not reachable for comment.

Store employees told police that Chapman picked up items in the store and made it appear that he was paying for them using a self-checkout system via iPhone app. He would then leave the store without actually paying for the items, they said.

Court documents obtained from TMZ Sports say Rex Chapman pocketed $5,460 in cash from pawning off $14,278 worth of stolen goods from the Apple Store in Scottsdale. Apple's Beats By Dre headphones were among the products Rex allegedly took from the store without paying, using the self-checkout app to deceive employees into thinking he made the purchase.

The Colts wasted no time in cutting Da'Rick Rogers.

Just moments after word surfaced that Rogers had been arrested for driving under the influence, coach Chuck Pagano told reporters that the team had cut Rogers.

Rogers, who led the SEC in catches and yards during his sophomore season at Tennessee, has great talent as a receiver. But he left Tennessee because of failed drug tests and was already on thin ice in the NFL. This arrest sealed his fate, and may have ended his NFL career.

Rogers was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in the Bar Knoxville incident back in July 2010.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Brad Durham, the former University of Kentucky offensive lineman who fell from the upper deck during Saturday night's game at Commonwealth Stadium, remained in serious condition at UK Hospital late Monday afternoon, a school spokesperson said.

A witness, who was seated behind Durham and tried to save him from falling, said Durham stood up and faced the crowd to celebrate the Wildcats' game-winning touchdown late in the game when he lost his balance, tipped over the railing and plunged 35-40 feet to the seats below.

Durham played for the Cats from 2007 to 2010. Rich Brooks, Kentucky's coach at the time, tweeted support Monday, calling Durham a "great young man and outstanding player."

Born in the early spring of 1971, former Vol wide receiver Cory Fleming knew from an early age that football was not only a passion, but a true love.

"I played behind Carl Pickens his Junior year and I got the majority of my play against Mississippi State in 1991," Fleming said. "They ended up starting J.J. McKlesky over me because I didn't stick around in the summer. I felt like coach Majors didn't think I had a commitment to the team. That certainly wasn't the case. I was the fourth receiver and we started going 4-wide. I caught my first pass and first touchdown against State in Knoxville. Carl got hurt that game and I had to take his place. That's when I think I became a wide receiver at Tennessee."

Fleming was versatile enough to play all of the wide receiver positions, but one in particular always spoke to him and put him a position to be successful.

"I loved playing in the slot," Fleming said. "You are the go-to guy in that position in that offense. I wanted it and I had a great time in it. The plays put you in a position to be successful because I was going against linebackers and strong safeties. We had players and coaches that bought into a team concept."

Not only was Fleming a key playmaker for the Vols in the early 1990s, but he also was a leader in every since of the word. It was a role that he relished and embraced thanks to those that mentored him. It's an opportunity that he would still want to this day.

"One of the things that I always wanted to do is come back and let the guys know the tradition that Tennessee has," Fleming said. "When I was playing, the Alvin Harper's and Terrance Woods showed me how to be a leader. That's one of the things that was instrumental to me. I in turn tried to show guys younger than me what it meant. Some of the guys called me "Godfather" and I felt good about my impact and they appreciated my leadership and work ethic."

His last couple of seasons on Rocky Top, Fleming caught passes from Heath Shuler. The former first round quarterback backed up Fleming's thoughts on leadership.

"Cory's actions spoke extremely loud," Shuler said. "He was a coach on the field and he was a mentor to a lot of the young receivers that came along through his work ethic. He showed them how to be a success on and off the field. He learned from the guys when he came in and he paid it forward and that is a part of the Vol for life accountability that coach (Jones) talks about."

Fleming was a part of some big games at Tennessee including the "Miracle at South Bend" and several big bowl games. He helped Tennessee win the SEC Championship during his time at Tennessee, but he also felt like they were so close to doing so much more.

"I felt like we were always inches away from a National Championship," Fleming said...

After his time at Tennessee, Fleming played in the NFL and the Arena Football League. He was re-united with his first quarterback at Tennessee, Andy Kelly, playing for his hometown Nashville Kats.

Fleming resides in Nashville where he is the staffing coordinator at Tri-Star staffing in Smyrna.

It's important to note here that Wiltjer is shooting at anything but game-speed here. Getting up 75 threes in five minutes ia not very many, but regardless of how quickly he's letting them fly, making 70 out of 75 is pretty impressive.

I have no idea how Gonzaga is going to defend with the likes of Kevin Pangos, Kyle Wiltjer and Przemek Karnowski on the floor together at the same time, but good luck trying to find a way to defend the Zags this season.

A grand jury dismissed charges against former South Carolina running back Kenny Miles after he was accused of lying to police about his shooting in November 2013. Miles claimed he was shot during a robbery attempt before later admitting he shot himself in a suicide attempt.
