Blew a 9 run lead going into the 6th and lost 15-9 to the Yankees at Fenway.

Anyone else watch it - it was not pretty.
Valentine is already in trouble with the fans - they let him have it yesterday.
15 games into the season and the announcers were talking about management having Valentine's back and how he would not step down.
15 games in and they're already talking like that - Red Sox are in trouble.

I watched it and of course thought it was great. Good news for Sox will probably be a rainout tonight.  Great for me also because I will be at the ballpark in arlington and should get to see C.C tomorrow night if there is a rainout today.
Let's make some waves.

clutch

Bobby V. may be out of baseball for good before long. I'm not a Red Sox or Yankees fan, but I thought it was hilarious/embarrassing to see the Yankees score 15 straight after being down 9 runs.

Bobby V. lost the team when he made those comments a week or so ago. If there was anything he should have learned from Francona it was that keeping the team together and on track should have been his main focus. They have the talent.

Watching Boston play, and remembering their '11 finish; it doesn't look like much of a team to lose. They need some pitching pretty bad. Looks like three or four productive bats so far this season. Booing Bobby V. looks like the least of this team's problems...

Don't like them anyway...

Well - I see not many Red Sox fans on Hogville.

I think they are all on a ledge somewhere.

Frankly I think it's too soon to panic.  They got off to a slow start last year too.  But BV screwed up and may not win the trust of his players back.

johnny cash

Valentine should have stayed retired.

hoglady

The GM just needs to let Valentine manage the team. Valentine is catching all the wrath but he had nothing to do with putting that pitching staff and bullpen together / Valentine never wanted Bard moved from the bullpen to starting and hopefully he can talk some sense into Cherrington.

It's a long season.  Not Bobby V fault they gave up 7 in back to back innings.  That beig said go Yankees!
Let's make some waves.

Well - I see not many Red Sox fans on Hogville.

If you go outside and look towards Cabot and squint really hard, you'll see another Red Sox/ Hogville fan.

Yeah, this season (starting last August) has been one giant train wreck and it's been killin' me. Ugh!  The only consolation is knowing the Yankees are sucking pretty bad, too.

My son is a huge Dustin Pedroia fan, so by extension I've kept up with the Sox.  IMO, three things need to happen - get everyone healthy and back in the lineup (Crawford, Ellsbury, Middlebrooks, now Pedroia, etc.), get rid of Dice-K and Lackey and bring in a couple starters that can get through a first inning without getting lit up (Dice-K) or aren't arrogant d-bags (Lackey, who thankfully isn't in the rotation this year), and sombody needs to step up and give Ortiz some help at the plate.  Gonzalez is struggling right now, and outside of Papi and Salty there isn't any consistency in the lineup.

It says a lot about the past few years for the Red Sox, that when I saw this thread, I wondered 'which one' ;  I can't remember the last time a season went relatively smoothly, without strange and unusual things in BoSox land.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I feel like this tends to happen with the superstar teams.  Just doesn't seem like putting that many egos together forms a cohesive group.

I used to sort of agree with this, but the past few years have sort of muddled my opinion on the necessity of  'star collections' bringing this sort of thing.    I mean, the Yankees have had their fair share of drama, but it's been significantly less, to my perception, the past few years--- and it's not like they aren't a collection.   Philadelphia has had some drama, but not Red Sox drama.

YMMV.

We'll see what happens with them this weekend - final series w/ Yankees before the break. Beckett supposed to start tonight.
Been a disappointing season to date - but full of drama.
Oh well - still love my Red Sox, through thick and thin.
Looks like we are going through a spell of thin that may last a long time.
But as a lifelong fan you learn to expect the disappointments.

Thanks for Youkilis, that dude is lighting it up now for the good Sox!  Can't believe you guys let him go for so little.

As good as he's been for the ChiSox, Middlebrooks has been better for the BoSox.  Until he went to the 15-day DL.  I hated to see Youk go, but it was getting near impossible to keep him in the lineup with the way Middlebrooks has been hitting the ball.

This freefall started the minute they hired Valentine. This ain't Japan Bobby!

I'm hoping to see if he can 1-up his fake mustache and sunglass costume after getting tossed when managing the Mets.

Need to see a Yanks win tonight. 3 out of 4 is acceptable.

Yeah, Lackey and Dice-K have been a huge waste of time and money. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Theo did some good things but, man, he sure signed some duds, too. I wasn't that upset when they canned him. Sorta wish they had kept Francona but he didn't have his head where it should have been last year.

Great series for my (our) Yankees.  3 of 4, with the lone loss being an error-marred affair by New York.

On a side note, I was amazed at how Red Sox pitchers were getting destroyed in the first inning of this series -- they gave up a combined 14 runs in the first inning alone.

Red Sox had a number of chances to keep the game close last night and never got the big hit when needed.

Was a fairly wacky series.  Guess you can't complain about 3 of 4 though. Nice turnout of Yanks fans last night.  Gonna try and get up there for at least one Yanks / Sox series this year.

It's hard to beat hitting .350 with more RBI's than games played.  Especially considering the Sox 3rd basemen were hitting a combined .180 or something before Youkilis showed up.  I'm a believer.  I don't think it'll continue long after the all star break before he returns to earth, but at the moment it's definitely worth the momentum he's provided.

He's definitely been a step up from where they were at 3B.  I like Youk; I hope he continues to do well in Chicago.  He's gonna give max effort every day.  I think the whole falling out with Bobby V. is ultimately what led to the trade, and I think Valentine was way out of line with his comments about Youk.  The fact that Middlebrooks was killing the ball made the move that much easier for management.  My only concern for ChiSox fans would be Youk's health.  In the last few years, he's been on the DL a lot.

Jeff "hogfanintx" Anderson

Never hated a player more than I do youk! That queer ass way he holds his bat to the way he sorta swings.  Yay white sox. Don't blame him for the red sox tank.

Thank that douhe Beckett for starters!

I've also heard and read things about how Youkilis wasn't very well liked in the clubhouse for a litany of reasons, namely because he was extremely standoffish with Ellsbury since he broke into the majors and was also viewed by many (especially Beckett) as the 'mole' who leaked the chicken-and-beer-in-the-clubhouse story.  That, coupled with the fact that he and Valentine hated each other, he's seemingly always dealing with nagging injuries, and was falling off offensively, made the trade much easier for the Red Sox.
