Depends. A unit for one person could be 10 dollars or 50 dollars or 10,000 dollars. It's just a term used in money management meaning the dollar amount you bet.

Not touching Co v. co state. I cant find the winner.  They both stink pretty evenly. But I have Louisville.

If Ohio doesn't put some points on the board the over may be tough to reach.

That missed field goal would have covered the over. Surely with 7 minutes to play somebody will put at least 3 more on the board.

5dimes 10 game parlay.  Odds of 641.08 to 1

Anybody play this?  Explain what I need to know.  I'm not really into gambling but I like the odds of me picking 10 can't miss games over going to any of the Indian casino's across the state line.

How I read it is pick 10 games, straight bets.  You wager a set amount on each games, say $50, so $50x10 = $500 + $50 of juice, so $550 total investment.

Miss a game; lose it all. Pick 10 winners and win $32,054.

I can't stop thinking that in these early weeks there's got to be 10 patsy games and no brainers like S.Carolina over UNC, Clemson over UGA, Bama over VT, etc.

I did a mock this week and won 9/10.  Ohio St. was my miss.

Anyone play parlays on the reg?  What are the pitfalls to be aware of?

I did some 3 or 4 game parlays last year betting big...only picking winners and not the spread (if that is what you mean).

It worked every time I did it. Obviously the risk is that lone underdog that you don't forsee like ULM last year or an Appalachian state.

That fumble return did us in...CSU was driving for the go ahead and a td woulda covered the spread. 14 point swing and that was it

What I read is you can do straight bets or bet the money line.  The money line is kinda confusing to me because I'm not into it enough to learn all the nuances and prop bets and multipliers and side bets you can roll in together in a parlay.

The easiest looks to be just picking the winners against the spreads and betting the same amount on each game.  There's a big jump in the payout odds between 9 and 10 games and 11 and 12 games.

The 12 game parlay pays off at 2300ish to 1.   I just keep thinking with all the trash FBS schools and the extra 5 or 6 schools that have made the jump up to DI there's got to be  10 or so games each week that are no-brainers.   You can include the over/unders (totals) in the parlay too, but I'm much better at picking the winners (65% vs. 57%) than the over/unders.

The games through September have a lot of pushovers and OOC games that should be easy to cherry pick.

Long term, playing exotics is a loser for the bettor.  The percentages will eat you up.

For example:

A 2-game parlay(point spread) has a difficulty level of 1 in 4.

Yet the payoff is not even 3:1.

Following along, a 3-game parlay has a difficulty of 8:1 yet pays 5:1.

Exotics might be fun, but the reward to risk factor is horrible.  The key attraction is that you can simply make a single wager with no juice on it in "a shoot for the moon" approach.

Good info guys. Thanks. Makes you want to make sure you and the bookie speak the same language. :D

Do you always bet at least 1 unit?  I bet less if I am less sure.

There might be what I would consider 7 or 8 no-brainers in a full season of college football. Certainly not each week and not against the line.  Vegas knows what there are doing.

Ok, what about:

 Florida State -10.5 V. Pitt?

Anyone like this game?

My site also has an option to play halves, but I don't know how.  What's this mean?

NCAA FOOTBALL MEN 1ST HALVES FIRST HALF LINES - SEP 02

Not sure what you call a no-brainer anyway.

At quick glance Of too 25 teams Oregon St lost outright. Ohio St, Nebraska, Notre Dame did not cover A*M did not cover USC did not cover. Georgia, South Carolina, LSU, Alabama, and Okie St were all one within one TD either way of not covering.

See the point I'm making.

I hit a ten teamer 2 years ago, but put like five bucks on it. Paid like 3500.00.

Its simply a bet for the 1st half, if Florida state is up by 6 or more they cover the -6 and the over under is 24.5.

I am leaning toward the over in that game, but I like Florida St. too.

Missed all action yesterday until late. Was watching the CU v CSU game and just to make it interesting, I put like 1/2* on CU -.5 in the 2nd half.

I can't find lines for next week yet, and i guess I'll have to wait for the game to finish today.

Really nice weeks this week from a few people.

1* FSU -6.5 1st half

Not a whole lot I like this week. I will be tailing some folks.

I do like Ball St -9, Ok St -24, and Oregon -21.5.

Edit: my book has Ball St the same, OK St -26.5, and Oregon -24

A couple of observations though, everyone saw Or St lose to an FCS team, and saw Hawaii hand with USC for a while, yet the line is Or St -27.5. Also, Toledo lost by 18 to Florida, but the line is Mizzou -17.

This is my thought as well.

Played Fl St -10.5 / 2 units
Over 48 for 2 units
Parlay the same way for 1 unit.

I have liked Pitt since way back and hate betting against them.  This one could bite me in the butt, but seems jut too many playmakers for te noles fr me not to take them.

Good luck to you as well.  My heart wanted to bet Pitt, but my head got in the way. Hope my head wins although if Pitt could find a way to win outright it wouldn't hurt my feeling too bad.

I understand where you're coming from.  A no-brainer to me is staying away from bad match up games, looking for games where there's a decided advantage towards one team in coaching, talent, scheme, player match ups, or where weather or injuries/suspensions look to make a big impact.  Also I try to stay away from games with small spreads unless I'm really big on the underdog to upset.

Here's the games I chose on my mock parlay.  I'm not naive enough to think I can always pick 10 winners, some weeks there might only be 5 games that have the mix I'm looking for.

I felt really strong about

S.Carolina over UNC by 11
San Jose St. over Sac. St. by 20
Liberty beating the 20 pt. spread against Kent St.
Houston murdering Southern
Arizona over N. Arizona by 31
Michigan blowing the roof off C. Michigan
Arkansas running away from ULL
Murray St. being more terrible than Mizzou
Clemson beating UGA
Texas blowing NMST out
Colorado beating CSU

The only game I included and I thought twice about, I lost and that was Ohio St. not covering against Buffalo.  I felt Buffalo was really bad and Braxton Miller could clown them in the 2nd half.

I'll look at the lines for this week and give an opine about what I see could be easy money.

they can be fun for small plays ($5 or $10) but they increase the odds for vegas.  better to stay away
