I just saw that . . . good for them.  Absolutely no excuse for his actions.

Yeah Hout said something uncalled for but you should've just walked away instead your threw a punch and then let some a$$hole fans get the best of you, that Mr. Blount will probably cost you millions.

What world do you live in? This is the NFL we're talking about, right?  He probably just raised his draft stock. They love these types of guys.

His NFL career is not ruined, funny sentiment though.

Break & Run

He needs to be done with football for good.  His reactions were TOTALLY uncalled for.  Grow a pair and take the little bit of taunting from a player on the team that you called out saying "That boise state team needs an ass-whooping"  WELL BSU almost put a huge butt whooping on them last night!

Jdub

I think it is a little harsh.  3 games at least.  But apparently this is not his first run-in, so I guess the University had all they could take.

The fact that the commissioner of the Pac-10 was at the game and witnessed the altercation most likely played a huge part in the severity of the punishment.

according to some nfl insiders and nfl execs it is.

They took a chance on Pacman Jones, Dante Stallworth, and Ricky Williams (among a long list of athletes) ... I'd expect this initial reaction from most, but he's still talented, he's going to get picked up.

QuoteHout appeared to be taunting Blount before the punch, but a Boise State spokesman told The Associated Press in an e-mail message Friday that Coach Chris Petersen would not suspend Hout. Instead, Petersen will spend time with Hout this week to help him learn from what happened.

I think we can all infer as to how Peterson will "help him learn from what happened."  That is pure coachspeak for "your @ss is mine."

if he's VERY lucky, he might be able to make it in the nfl but it's a longshot.  the nfl doesn't have a lot of patience.  he won't get drafted after this stunt in addition to having -5 yds for the season.  he might be able to sign as a free agent for a minimum and then work his way into a team's good graces if he is a model citizen and performs very well.  i'd love to see him turn his life around but it will take a lot of work on his part and i highly doubt it happens.

He probably will probably get picked up but it won't be no where near as high as he would've been drafted

Should have suspended Hout for a game too for instigating the thing.

The look on the Boise State player's face almost makes the whole thing worth it for me.

Seriously though, does Blount have a redshirt year available?  It would be worth it for him to try and get another year of eligibility.

regi

Both got what they deserved. If you are gonna run your mouth and taunt, be ready to back it up. If you knock a bench warmer the f out, you deserve a suspension.

8 carries for a MINUS five yards. From what I saw of that performance he had no millions in his future.

The only thing that saved Todd Day's life that day was the fact that he MISSED Larry Johnson.

As for Blount getting a redshirt...there are redshirts for not playing (coach's discretion) and medical hardship redshirts. But I'm not sure they give them out for being a dumb$h!t?

I know he shouldn't have done what he don but a whole season is a little to much. Throwing punches is condoned in Hockey and baseball ,but not in football or basketball ,so where do we draw the line? Some people just want to bury this guy.

I believe that would fit the coach's discretion.  For sure the kid has had some stupid moments but I would rather see him get another chance in the discipline and structure of a football team than have to try and rehabilitate him from inside a prison (if that becomes the case).

When he came out of JUCO, Florida State was begging for his services, him being a Florida raised athlete, but he chose to go to Oregon.

He got his stock evaluated last year, grading out fairly high. One game doesn't make an entire career, but one punch could definitely define the money you make.

I think had it just been the punch in the face he would have only been suspended for a few games.  The hot button issue with this kid's actions happened when he tried to go into the stands after opposing fans.  There are always going to be guys getting roughed up and cheap shots (not condoning)  but it is looked on as very serious when you try to get in on the fans no matter their behavior.

Who on the bengals has been violent? I watch Hard Knocks and have been very impressed with their overall team.

That Tank guy I think got in trouble a few years ago but has been fine since. I cant think of anybody else.

The ESPN article says this was a right cross.  I disagree, I think it was a straight right hand as the right cross has more of an arcing motion.  This was clearly a straight punch.  Shabby reporting.

I am aware Jones, mainly at his son's insistence, made an attempt to get rid of those types during this past off season.  Which ones do think are still around?

Looking at his history, the kid is definitely a thug.  I don't think he should be suspended for the season, I think he should be banned from NCAA sports.

scorekeeper

I think the receiver of the punch should be suspended a few games.  I hate a sore loser, but there is not a place for taunting after a game. Act like you expected to win the game.
If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?

If he was still alive, you could ask Woody Hayes what one punch cost him.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Big name players make big plays in big games. That guy wasn't even able to back up his smart-ass mouth. His game was not as impressive as his haymaker to an unsuspecting jawbone. He'll never hear his name called at the NFL draft.
