I'm 99.9% sure I read, heard, or saw on TV somewhere that he can throw a football 100 yards.
I can't remember where I heard that. Can he really throw it that far?

70 yards on one knee
They say Jamarcus Russell can throw the ball into the endzone stands from the 50 yard line on one knee.  I guess that'd be about 70 yards.

I was at the Grand Canyon once, and I threw a rock about a half a mile from the rim down to the ground.

I saw or heard that as well. I've quit relaying that tidbit as the Texicans I live around now think I am on drugs. What we need is video, lol.

And at the same time, I remember reading something about a radar gun hitting 115? I don't think it is possible unless a spiraling football picks up speed after release. I wonder if Mallett has ever pitched?

I'm thinking I heard it on the Razorback Nation Pig Trail one Sunday.

let's put it this way, if he could throw it any further the football would need a passport.

I'm sure he's tried it.  I'd like to know though.

Mallett should launch one after practice and put it on youtube or something.  Give everybody something to talk about.

thehill1414

There's no way he threw it 115, although that's what DJ Williams apparently said. I remember on Monday Night Football a few years ago, they clocked Favre throwing the ball, his top speed was like 74 mph. I bet Mallett can hit 70 and can probably throw it 80 yards or so.

coach, my back hurts

After i left practice last week, as i was coming out of the Bobby-Hopper Tunnell, a Wilson Razorback football hit perfectly, in stride, in the bed of my truck.

Mallett hit Reggie Fish over the middle in practice and knocked him back 8yrds on his back.  When Fish hit the turf his momentum rolled up the field.

Beaverfever

However far/fast it is it's impressive.  My favorite fall camp moment so far was when Mallett threw a bullet to LC and LC just screamed in pain after he dropped it.

When Ryan Mallett throws the football, the football takes the long way home!  8)

I know I've heard them talk about a "baseball equivilent" when referring to ball velocity. I imagine that's what DJ was talking about.

Percocet and Oxycontin will reduce the velocity by 30%.

Pat Doney did a special on KNWA about mallett an said  he could throw a football over 100 yards........
I would like to see that..?

aar0n

I used to be able to throw a ball around 60-65 yards (without any kind of accuracy) and I had a pretty average arm.  I don't think it's a stretch for Mallett to reach 100.  He has a freakin cannon

As commented by a poster (?) in an earlier thread on this topic, 115 may be an accurate number but units were probably km/hr. Remember from science/physic class that numbers without (correct) units are meaningless.

At 1.6 km = 1 mi, 115 mph/1.6 = 71.9 mph. Pretty much in line with the Favre numbers.

I was watching that game also.  I am sure that if someone did talk about 115 mph, it was an equivalency thing or some exaggeration.  I have seen a very few people throw one 80 yards or so.  100 yards is believable for someone with an above average arm.  100 mph or above is not believable.  If it was, you would see baseball pitchers that threw faster than that.

He throws it far enough that Fed Ex and UPS are trying to get him under contract for thier Next Day Air Program.

TuckFexas

If he could throw a baseball 115mph then he'd be cashing a check larger than Strasburg is getting (#1 pick in this year's baseball draft for those of you who hate baseball).

Even if he can throw it 100 yards, what does it matter? Starting from the 1 inch line it would be rather difficult to hit a receiver 100 yards away while dodging all the defenders trying to sack his ass for a safety.

100 yards is not believable; NFL QB challenges regularly top out at the 72-75 yard mark--  Vinny Testaverde threw one 82 yards, wind-aided, for the NFL QB Challenge distance record-  no one has been within 5 yards of that in almost 15 years of the top arms in the NFL airing it out.

Ya I think Joe Flacco threw it 73 or 74 yards in the college challenge they do, and Flacco has a cannon also.  I don't think anyone can throw a football 100 yards.  Mallett can definitely throw it 70 yards, but have a hard time believing anyone can throw it over 85 yards.  Saying that I'd love to see him do it though.

Glad I scrolled down to read this post, cuz it was what I was going to say.  I'd say Mallett and Jamarcus Russell have the same caliber arm.  Russell was able to throw the ball roughly 80 yards standing up, 60 on one knee, and 40 lying down.  He was able to throw completions at 65 yards while throwing across his body.

THe numbers of 115 mph don't seem believable.  However, the poster that mentioned that there might be a mph-kph conversion error might be onto something.  100 yards also seems like a bit of a stretch.

It is common knowledge that several MLB organizations were willing to draft him in the
first round after his senior year of High School but he declined to enter the draft
preferring to play football.

No one has ever thrown a regulation football 100 yards.  Mallet can throw it 80 yards, which is as about as far as anyone ever has.  Joe Montana could not throw a ball more than 50 yards.   Lots of QB's that you have never heard of could throw it 80 yards.  Its meaningless.

Throwing a football a 80+ yards is not meaningless.

It is just rare occasion that one would need it.

Having said that much more important for a QB to have an accurate/quick release.

Razorback Nation comfirmed twice, that he can throw over 100 yards.  They also asked him on a live interview a few months back, and he said he did'nt know.  The reporter then said we(RN) where betting you could throw it over 80.  Mallet laughed and said I can throw it farther than 80.

Where's the video, if they have 'confirmed' this?

You can confirm people saying  'Yes, I can throw it a 100 yards!'  all day, but it doesn't make it so.
