Finally broke down and bought the Big Green Egg...

Spent waaayyyy tooo much on it but it should be the last grill I buy.  Tried it out twice this weekend and it's as advertised.  Great flavor, juicy steaks, but it definitely involves a learning curve.   
I need to be more like my dog...if you can't fight it, screw it, or eat it, then piss on it.

Well done! I'm still saving for mine, have two freinds with them, and can't wait til I have my own. What size did you get?

I bought the large and went ahead and bought the 4 foot table to match and thus got all the $$$ hurt out at once.   We cook out so much that I'd burnt my last natural gas grill out in less than 10 years so in the long run, it seemed like a decent deal.

I was talking with some folks and you can't believe the versatility you have with ribs, prime ribs, etc.  Gonna be fun.

I say wise move, both my buddies just have the metal nest and I def want the table. I am going to have to go ahead and get the extra large, but have been putting it off because of the "HURT". I have a renewed EGG ENVY!!! DAMN YOU BOARCEPHUS!!!

If you cook out that much your learning curve will be short lived, all in the air regulation, as I'm sure you have found out. The best part of the egg experience for me is being able to actually sear meat, hard to do on a weber. Last fall one of them did a big roast as a practice run for a prime rib at Christmas, and it turned out so good he does them quite often now.

Got the thing Saturday and the first thing I did was run to Sam's where they had a heck of a sale on Ribeyes.  Bought a pound and a half, 1 1/2-2 inch thick ribeye, cranked the egg up to 650, seared on both sides for one and a half minutes, shut the dampers and cooked it another few minutes and had the juiciest, medium rare, big steak I've ever had.

I've heard prime ribs are great so I suppose I'll have to play with one of those as well.

I have a Kamado Hibachi which was made in Japan in 1965.  A bunch of U.S. Air Force guys brought them back to the States after being stationed there during the Vietnam War.  My Uncle gave me his about 15 years ago.  The Big Green Egg is modeled after the Kamado but there is one major difference...the egg is made of high tech ceramics and Kamado is made of clay.  They cook much the same way as far as regulating the heat.   Once you learn how to regulate the heat, you will never want to cook on anything else.

There is nothing like putting on a pork shoulder at 225 degrees, leave the house and take it off 10 hours later.  You do not have to worry about checking the meat.  Take it off the grill and the bone will literally fall out.  One of the best  investments you could make.

We called them the "#5 Hibachi" pots... heavy as hell when hoisting them up/down the ladder in a C-5A.....  even bad into the low door of a C-141.... never bought one (stupid comes to mind), but helped others carry home at least, 100+ of those pots out of Yokota AB, Japan... those were the days (for the young)...  ;)

For a fact.  Wouldn't (couldn't) have done it 20 years ago but with no kids at home or in college, just me and the wife and two ratty schipperkees, figured why not bite the bullet and get one.

In fayetteville, Backyard Specialists, Straights Lawn and Garden, and Burton Pool and spas carry them.  Bought mine from Backyard.

I've wanted one of these for 10 years, at least.  I just can't bring myself to fork out the $$ though.  Maybe Santa will bring me one this year.

Yea on their website they say the warrenty is no good if you buy it off the net.

I understand, way after the fact I might add, that there are BGE cookoffs and demo's held around the country where you can buy one that's been used once for a substantial discount if you want to go to one and pick up it and haul it home yourself.  A guy I work with told me about one in OKC not long ago.  He wound up buying from Seaside Pools in Lowell for a heck of better price than I paid but he had to pick it up and put it together.
