I get a mish-mash of sports packages, as I live in Ireland;  I get the ESPN NBA broadcasts, some of the ABC games, and about a third of NBA-TV stuff  on my mix-and-match sports networks.  I generally watch 1 NBA game a night during the week, and one on the weekends.   The quality of play all around the league is up a lot over even just last year.

Since you've gotten to watch all the playoff teams, who do you think will be in the Finals?  I've kept up because I play Fantasy Basketball, but really that just focuses on stats and not how cohesive a team is.

Spurs and Celtics--- mainly because the Spurs will get all the calls in the Western Conference Playoffs-- the Hornets are the best team, followed very closely by the Lakers-- and if Bynum returns and gives the Lakers much of anything, that can quickly flip.

The Pistons just aren't the same Pistons anymore;  I don't see them shutting down the better offensive teams in the Eastern Conference indefinitely like they used to;  the Celtics can and will outplay them on the defensive end, and they simply have no answer for a superstar scorer like LeBron, either.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I would predict that the Spurs would have no chance of getting all the calls against the Lakers.

They didn't really get any today at home against the Suns.  They got lucky with some miracle shots, but nothing weird with the refs.

The Hornets are dang good, but if you can defend a pick and roll and have somebody to put on Stojakovic, New Orleans struggles to score.

You Suns fans crack me up too.  Mike D'Antoni is the biggest whiner crybaby in the league.  His teams play an 'exciting' brand of basketball that in many ways is non-fundamental.  Steve Nash wins 2 MVP's based EXCLUSIVELY on his offensive skills, cause when he plays one of the other great guards out there today (Paul, Deron Williams), he gives up more than he produces.

Then they screw up and trade away their (by far) most versatile defender while keeping the ever popular Amare Stoudamire - a poor defender with little offensive game other than dunks and obligatory free throws.

Here's a tidbit for you, Oliver:  exciting basketball is winning basketball.  It ain't exciting if it don't bring titles.

1.  I'm not a Suns fan.
2.  No, exciting basketball is basketball that is fun to watch.  The Spurs basketball isn't fun to watch.  It's good fundamental basketball and that's why it wins titles but it's not exciting.

Man, Houston is terrible.  I can see why the Jazz tanked their last game against the Spurs.

Oliver

Well, the Utah/Houston series is over as well as the Spurs/Suns but I think the Dallas/New Orleans series will end up being a good one.

Nobody in the West managed to stop the P&R and a spot up shooter all year.

I hope Phoenix can bounce back on Tuesday and make it a great series.  Maybe not so many ticky tack fouls.  Like that bogus 1st one in the game on Shaq.  I really think he makes a difference in how they play defense and he really goes after the boards.  I really enjoy watching a motivated Shaq play and I think that if they get past the Spurs and Hornets, then the Lakers and Suns would be another classic.

I think Dallas has an extremely fragile psyche and hopefully them blowing their lead going into the second half will hurt them more than the Suns, but then again I'm a Sun's fan.  I'm really going to enjoy these playoffs because I get to see all the players I read about.  Chris Paul is going to be awesome for years.

You've got to wonder what would happen in Dallas if they lose in the 1st round.  Does Cuban blow them up and start from scratch?  I'm pretty sure he'll fire Avery if they lose in the first round and pretty certain that they're not going to re-sign Devean George.

The Rockets just seem thin due to injuries, not just Yao's.  Erie, did you get to watch their winning streak?  Do you think they stand much of a chance against Utah?  I've read that they do better without Yao, but also read that they do better with Rafer who will be out the next game.

I wonder if DeShawn Stevenson regrets making those comments about Lebron now?  I'm sure that ESPN and ABC will compare their stats game to game.  Anyone, besides me, remember who was Stevenson's teammate in high school?

First day of the playoffs are done.  I've been looking forward to it for weeks and even though my top team lost, it still was entertaining.

I saw 3 or 4 of the streak games, and the ender. The Rockets won on jump shooting, and defending after makes.  Utah kills jump shooting teams, and will own the Rockets.  As for Yao, he gives them better interior D and rebounding, but kills their offensive pace and spacing.

For what it's worth, I'll predict Utah winning the west.

With Williams and Boozer to score 50, grab 20 board, dish 15 assists and defend pick and rolls - and add Kirilenko to defend "the other guy" and swat backside shots all night - Utah is a tough, tough, tough out.

Kirilenko hasn't been the same guy he used to be all season, especially defensively.   If he finds his game, Utah is dangerous, but he's been MIA most of this year.

Not half as bad as last year however.  He is just used to being more of a play maker on offense, he was an All-Star caliber player a few years ago, and he could probably go to another team and be the #2 guy, but he has taken a backseat due to Booz and Deron stepping up in a big way.

Kirilenko was fantastic against the Rockets in game 1.

Utah has the athletes it'll take to put the clamps on the Lakers.
