Thought it would be better to do this on one thread, since I'm seeing a lot of questions on other threads about traffic, routes, etc.

There are a lot of us Dallasites on here, we've got the inside info if you need any help.

WPS and hope to see some of you at the game!!!!!

Can you recommend a good Mexican restaurant that also offers TV to keep up with other bowl games?  Prefer Galleria/Beltline/Spring Valley Rd. area, but a location between Cotton Bowl and north Dallas will be OK.

I think Papasito's has a tv in the bar area...probably about the best mexican food around.  Get the fajitas or the beef tacos al carbon...and the fresh guacamole!!

Ok, I have a question. We will have a group of seven, and we are looking for a place to eat dinner on New Year's Eve. We are hoping for a sports bar-type place that is close to some decent bar action in a nice area. It doesn't have to be in West End, but that would be fun. We are hoping to just park somewhere and then walk all over that night.

Do you have any suggestions for a decent restaurant that would meet those criteria? We don't mind a wait, but maybe some place that we have a reasonable shot of getting in. Sports bar preferred.

Thanks for the help...

Going to get this out there and I hope someone listens.  If you ignore it, it could be a long night for some.

Taxis.     If you are staying in the Downtown area (Adams Mark, W, Hyatt, Renaissance, Anatole etc etc etc) and plan to taxi to Deep Ellum/West End have a contingency to get you home.

These areas will not only be filled with locals wanting taxis but football fans wanting them as well.  Who will get them and how many there are is anyone's guess.  Do not expect to just come out of a bar at 1:00AM and expect taxis to be lined up ready to accept you and your money.  There simply aren't enough to accomodate everyone and definitely not the moment you want to toodle back to your hotel bed.  Some may get lucky but some reading will find out it's not an easy task.

Expect to wait.  Expect someone to argue over them.  Expect to get creative if needed.  Ask your hotel about shuttles, bribe a driver, whatever.

There's Dave & Buster's on Central Expressway, but it is being taken over by Mizzou nye...
The hilton Lincoln Center has a pretty good bar w/lots of tvs; dallas cowboy themed-only if you're staying there-not worth a special trip.

if you're not going greenville ave or mcKinney ave,

The best Mexican food places in the city don't have TVs.
The best would be Mia's on Lemmon Ave.
A close second would be Desperado's on Greenville just north of University. If you're going for the best food, there's no comparison.

Hog In Houston, a great sports bar is the McKinney Ave. Tavern (on McKinney Ave!). There are a lot of good restaurants in that area...the MAT will be packed, though.

I haven't been to the Cotton Bowl since 1990 when I was still a teenager, so I don't remember the logistics of it all.   I didn't buy a parking pass with my tickets.  I believe I can still get one for $20.  Do I need to, or will I be alright looking for something the day of the game?

Plenty of parking around the Cotton Bowl.  Remember, the State Fair is held there and the parking lots will be in full force.

I'd suggest something like Frankie's, Christie's, or The MAT (McKinney Avenue Tavern).  All are close to each other, and other bars in the area are within walking distance.  Also, other restaurants are in the area, but these 3 places have pretty decent bar food for sports bars.

West End or other areas...in your opinion what is the best place to eat and mingle with other Hog fans.  The 1990 Cotton Bowl was the last Hog Cotton Bowl we attended.

It's really up to you.  There will be plenty of parking around the Cotton Bowl, fairly safe and good rates.  I-30 runs right past the Cotton Bowl.

However, if you want to drink and eat a little before the game, I'd suggest the bars on Exposition - New Amsterdam is technically a coffee house and I'm sure will be open.  You can park there and walk.

I'm not sure about the West End, but I'd bet there will be shuttles going from Dick's Last Resort, the West End Pub, etc - They opened Dick's early before the NCAA tourney a couple of years ago and I have a feeling even more stuff will be open early for the bowl.

Is anybody flying in to DFW on Jan 1?  We are leaving from Little Rock and after searching the Cotton Bowl site, DFW site, and DART it looks like we are pretty much on our own getting from DFW to the game.  I'm hoping there will be shuttle service.  Surely, right?

Actually, I believe there are shuttles that go into town that are pretty reasonable.  If not, I would just rent a car, they are cheap and have unlimited miles.

We are staying at Adams Mark, and they told us public transportation was available to the Cotton Bowl so that's what we are doing in lieu of parking. I'm not worried about getting over there, it's the ride back to the hotel that concerns me. Will this be a problem?

There wasn't a flight into Love that morning.  Surely somebody else on the flight is going to the game will have a f'n clue.  Never been the the D and don't really want to rent a car.  Might have to pose as guests of whatever hotel shuttle we happen to see.

Michael-go to Reunion Hyatt Regency(Believe this is the team hotel again) a couple of days and you should have ample opportunities to meet and greet players as they come and go throughout the lobby and atrium areas. Usually after the lunch is served the players tend to have some free time in the afternoons if they are not invovled in a Cotton Bowl sponsered functions. If protocol is followed as in previous years the team will be sequestered on the 31st to get them away from the distractions. Also there should be opportunities to attend practices (unless they are closed) but usually 2 or 3 of them are open to the public. Texas Stadium was the practice facility for the Hogs during the '00 & 01 CBs.
