there are probably more people on hogwired

Honestly, there may be more people on Hogwired.com, but that website has ALWAYS been slow.  It's been written in a cumbersome way.  There are not enough photos (at least cool ones) and the site is not very "snappy".  The sites for Van Horn, McDonnell, Nutt, Heath are a little more flashy, but they admittedly aren't burdened with so much data.  Hogwired.com and the coach's websites were done by different firms...

http://www.davevanhorn.com/
http://www.houstonnutt.com/

all done by Ozark Computer Consultants...  I don't know if they are affiliated with the firm that did Hogwired (VeriSource), but I don't think so.  VeriSource has excellent engineers and designers, but I am sure Hogwired.com is not one of their business critical customers.

I just think that a website that serves a major university sports program ought to be fast and current and flashy.  After all, websites are mostly glorified brochures, but also, we fans need that information right now...not tomorrow.  Hogwired.com doesn't always meet that criteria.  I am sure if we complained to them, they would at least change the front page to make it load faster...

Hogwired is written in ASP, Active Server Pages a Microsoft invention.

ASUIndians.com is in php same as this site and Tribalgrounds. It's open source.

Most asp sites seem to run fairly slow, could be because they are on NT servers instead of unix or linux boxes or could just be the language is slower. Graphic guys love asp.

What is it about our freaky in-state athletic departments that they want to run their Web sites themselves?  Practically all of the rest of Division I has outsourced to College Sports Online.  They have a well-tested template, and the SIDs just feed data into it.

Actually, a large percentage of Division I is heading away from that group for more advanced templates in a couple of new companies, or they are going with local vendors -- checkout LSU and Florida, for examples.

Another good point.  I think it's unacceptable in 2005 to have a site as slow and awkward as Hogwired. But that's just me. Maybe when we have more than a mediocre football and basketball team we will have more than a mediocre website.

Lady'Back site flies and is still nice looking (not especially well organized, but neither is ASU's).

Middle Tennessee has a good fast site. http://goblueraiders.com/

Note how everything is shoved to the left with the backgroud running down the right. An old fashioned solution to different monitor set-ups. People with older graphic cards don't have to scroll right and left.

One thing that not nearly enough schools do is put media guides on the site in PDF format. Now I'd rather have that content in a searchable database, but no one wants to take the time to do it, but I'm always looking for some sort of media guide information and I'd rather have it in PDF where I can text search than trust the SID staff to have indexed it logically.

Uh.....since I'm not a computer guy(geek)....WTH are you guys talking about? I thought this was a sports thread....
Just as the dark ages passed, so will the effects of poor coaching for the last ten years. But more importantly the Razorback Nation will be unified.

The new era has begun...
